Old Nerds

Postby Nyarlathotep » Tue Feb 13, 2018 10:14 pm

When you are a nerd, but you start feeling the infirmities of old age, you buy things like this cane.

Makes me think I should start a company called “Old Grognard Inc” and sell nerdified canes, walkers, teeth holders, etc

The more I think of it, the better an idea it sounds like to me too. Seems over the next few years, there are going to be a lot of us who like to play RPGs and go to sci-fi cons but have bad knees/hips/teeth/ etc

It does sound interesting. And stuff with a bit of nostalgia value maybe.

Now you have some extra time on your hands, check out these DIY Projects for Geeks.

You could get your ears pierced and make yourself some cool ear rings...

Tom Smith - ConValescence

Song about a fan con themed retirement home :)
If I ever need to go to assisted living, I want this.

Tom Smith wrote:So let us all gather at ConValescence,
Where old-timers go to renew,
Where Doug Adams' hero is named Effer Dent,
And the Film Room shows Mister Magoo.

Where the Art Show has pictures of Dorian Gray,
Where the Tully and oxygen's pure,
And where we will party, flirt, filk, shmooze, and SMOF
Till the Con Suite runs out of Ensure.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

I hit GenCon every year. While there are always a large amount of kids, and that is actually great for the hobby, I notice more and more greybeards every year.

Learned a new word today: rollator

Kind of like a walker for old folks, except it has wheels and also doubles as a chair.

Since Nyarl refuses to obtain a stereo worthy of a Man of Wealth . . . and Taste, I may start "asking" for canes.

For great justice.

Doc, I've found the ideal stereo for him. Now, all you need to do is send him your ancient collection of
Genesis
albums. :)

While I love the Steampunk look, the ancient vacuum state devices must die!

Oh. Wait.

As you were. Just leave them powered up long enough and they'll die. A horrible, lingering fading of emissions followed by an unacceptable increase in THD, a mismatch to the specified load with resultant loss of plate efficiency and precious bodily fluids and such.

Smartarse.

I'll send him my beloved, vintage Hohner 64 Chromonica instead.

The pedantic assholes around here will note that it's not, technically, a stereo but learning how to play the cunt should keep him busy until he draws his final note...

I want him to call me Bunny while I give him the jolly good spanking he so richly deserves.

(I didn't make it to Eton but a free scholarship to a minor public school left its mark.)

Those are just decorations.

What's weird about that? :BigGrin3:
