Just looked him up in Wikipedia.

Lists his nationality as "European American". When was that shit added to the style book? I'd have noticed it by now if it were that way all along.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Goodbye Dr. Hawking. He certainly made the most of the bad hand he was dealt.

My wife asked, "Isn't that the guy who really knew about some black hos?"

I hope so, baby. I hope so.

He had a somewhat different flavor of ALS than did our beloved Cool Hand. Perhaps somewhere they're living on...in our memory.

Oh, and fuck.

I often wondered if he had actual ALS or a variant condition: it be a diagnosis of exclusion. Not that is matters: it would be some horrendous Triple German Named Disaster that always translates into "sorry, your fucked."

He exceeded the expectations for decades, which is a grand tribute to his care.

By the powers of G00gl3z, it was a variant:

Apparently he refused an actual knighthood--which would have made him a "Sir"--in the 1990s as a protest over the government funding of the sciences.

The BBC obituary referred to is as "a rare form of motor neurone disease". (I suppose that ALS is a motor neuron disease?)

I see that the SA article goes into much more detail about the different kinds of ALS than the BBC obituary, so it doesn't really add any information.
