Condi Rice as Mitt VP

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Condi Rice as Mitt VP

Postby Rob Lister » Wed May 02, 2012 12:16 pm

This trial balloon is floating around.

Republican diners haven’t yet picked their entree, but they’ve narrowed it down to the steak or the fish. Still, just as interesting as their main course will be their side selection: Will they go for a drab salad, or something more exciting? Maybe a spicy Rice dish?

Yes, that Rice: Condi. She’s rested and ready - and buff.

Image

America’s first black female secretary of state is quietly positioning herself to be the top choice of the eventual Republican presidential nominee, ready to deliver bona fide foreign-policy credentials lacking among the candidates. The 56-year-old has recently raised her profile, releasing her memoir in November and embarking on a monthlong book tour.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... e-of-rice/

Coolhand wrote in another thread that nobody votes for the VP, but they might vote against. I kinda agreed.

In this case, I might vote for that VP.

Having her on the ticket--any ticket--might get me to the polls.

I think it's easy to criticize people without sounding racist.

But anyway, she said a firm no, I think. Not that it means it won't happen. But she's not pouncing on it.

She had a good story. Mom got fed up and went into politics. Upset the old boys club. It's a hollywood story.

Unfortunately, America says it wants a housewife president but when they see her stuttering on Kouric and flubbing the easy questions; they realize they actually want a pro.

If her blackness had anything to do with her selection, it was political icing for the best possible choice anyway; She is clearly the smartest person in any political room.

I don't believe it was ignored... the fact is that many threat warnings are received and they do not have the resources to fully prepare for all, they have to choose what contingencies to prioritize. But instead of saying that, she adopted and defended the Bush administration's faulty message that we had not even considered the possibility. Perhaps they were worried about admitting we can't act on every possible danger, or that "Monday Morning Generals", if I may mix my metaphors, would decide the warning was given insufficient priority.

Instead they wound up making a false claim that was caught out. I think she did the country a disservice by playing along, but she wouldn't be the only one on the Bush cabinet to compromise their integrity to stay on message.

Yeah, and prominent conservative black persons always have to deal with the "race traitor" issue. Kinda sad.

Actually, it's very good evidence that it's not the color of your skin that counts. It's your ideology. Kinda fucks up the whole racist America narrative that still lives on today, long fucking past the time when it should have been put out to pasture to die in peace. As long as you have race baiters and an entrenched systemic sense of entitlement in the DNC that they can always count on black politicians and black voters to be with them, this kind of bullshit will continue.

For successful black Americans who happen to embrace some conservative ideas, they have to face the double whammy of being the targets of bigotry from old style ignorant bigots, and much more pernicious, the bigotry of black and white Americans who happen to be democrats who believe that all black persons in America should remain true to their roots, whatever the fuck that means in 2012, and vote with their brothers and sisters, which of course means to vote Democrat.

How dare a black person be a conservative. White liberals and black agitators can no longer credibly claim it's about skin color. They've been busted ever since the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. Face it. They're bigots, and some of the worst kind.

The title of the report was a truth we had already known for 10 years. "Bin Laden determined to Attack America". I am not sure how this wound up being part of the tapestry that was painted to depict the Bush admin as at fault for 911 due to neglect.

I think I called it above--it looks like neglect if you don't want to say that you knew about the possibility and considered others to be more important, and instead pretend that it blindsided you completely.

It was their own narrative that led to the perception, though I think it's off.

My own sense that Bush neglected the threat came from stories that the outgoing Clinton national security team tried to impress upon their replacements the significant danger coming from Al Qaeda, and were received dismissively on that point. However, I've not been terribly eager to hang him on that because I'm not terribly clear on who said that and how they knew.

I'm more about what happened afterwards, lately, than thinking he dropped the ball on preventing it.

Evidences?

Anyway, running Ms. Rice for VP would be the smartest move the Republicans have made in this entire election cycle. If the Democrats suddenly decided to run Hillary Clinton for VP, the VP debates would be worth watching for the sheer pwnage alone. Same if they stick with Biden--Ms. Rice would decimate him in a debate. She'd decimate Obama, even.

As VP, Rice would make a better President than Romney, who would be hopelessly outclassed.

The kicker is, there is really little evidence Condi is a true conservative, at least not as republicans define the term.

OK, then read my sentence as *not in the box labeled Left Liberal.* Black persons are not allowed to venture outside that box without the risk of being labeled race traitors or Uncle Toms.

I don't think the word "alliance" means what he think it means. For that matter I don't think the word "trying" means what he think it means.

I'm going to bet that he'd argue they did something that he disagrees with and thinks was counterproductive, then jump to the unsupported conclusion that A) he's right and B) they knew it but are only pretending

One Republican official familiar with the campaign’s thinking said it will be designed to produce a pick who is safe and, by design, unexciting — a deliberate anti-Palin. The prized pick, said this official: an “incredibly boring white guy.”

Rob Portman. Still leading the pack at Intrade:

1. Rob Portman 20.8%
2. Marco Rubio 16.5%
3. Chris Christie 9.0%
4. Mitch Daniels 7.8%
5. Bob McDonnell 6.6%
6. Tim Pawlenty 5.5%
7. Condoleeza Rice 5.2%
8. Paul Ryan 4.5%
9. John Thune 3.1%
10. Bobby Jindal 3.0%

ETA: “Incredibly boring white guy.” I think maybe he's following Obama's strategy for picking a veep, although I think it made more political sense for Obama to choose an “incredibly boring white guy” as a signal that he's not so radical and scary or anti-white male. For Romney it just enhances the stereotype that he's an “incredibly boring white guy.”

Re: Condi Rice as Mitt VP

Postby Rob Lister » Fri Jul 06, 2012 8:14 pm

The smart money is still on Mitt Romney picking someone from the Ryan-Rubio-Portman-Pawlenty camp as his VP, but yesterday's tease from Ann Romney that a woman is under consideration prompted Bill Kristol to rethink the prospects of Condoleezza Rice. Sure, Sen. Kelly Ayotte or New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez are possibilities, but Kristol thinks those are "risky picks" given their lack of experience, he writes at the Weekly Standard.

"No, the woman Ann Romney likely has in mind is Condoleezza Rice," and it makes sense because she "offers an unusual combination of being at once a reassuring pick (she served at the highest levels of the federal government for eight years) and an exciting one." As for the small matter of Rice saying she's not interested, keep in mind that Dick Cheney was saying the same thing way back when, he adds. Still, it's a long shot, and Kristol's best guess remains Paul Ryan.

she said, in an ad hoc interview of late, that it wasn't going to happen; that she loved policy but detested politics. That's an almost exact quote.

I'd like to see her change her mind. Maybe she's being courted. Does Mitt have the charms?

I'd rather it be Condi-Mitt, but whatever. Accidents do happen.
