I've enabled more HTML tags...

Post by skeptica »

This is the current list:

b,i,u,pre,marquee,p,a,!--,,<,blockquote,br,col,colgroup,div,dl,dt,dd,form,img,input,isindex,lh,nobr,span,tab,table,tbody,tb,textarea,tfoot,th,thead,tr,title,body

If there is something on that list that is useless, let me know. And, if we need to have something else that is essential, let me know. As it turns out, I only have so much space to specify these tags.

Do not forget to check off the box when composing your message if you want to use these tags.

Keep the suggestions coming!

I don't see the non-breaking space listed.

td, applet, embed, and &nbsp are added now... I just noticed that I mistyped td! :oops:

Actually... looks like I can't fit &nbsp into the list. I've maxed it out.

Is there something on that list that can be taken out? I also think that it doesn't like the special characters.

If you can make room for it, I'd really like to have &mdash;. I use that one a lot.

(I really, really, REALLY hate <marquee> and would not complain one bit if it were taken out. Feel free to neglect to put in <blink>, too.)

And, I just figured out :wink:, putting in < would be good to for when we don't want the real tag to show...

I use sub and sup a lot and &nbsp is also very handy. You'll need someone more html literate than I am to help you weed out some of the less useful tags, at least as far as forum posts go.

I've gone through the list at the top and I see no need for the following:

!-- (why would you need a comment???)
col
colgroup
dl
dt
dd
form
input
isindex (this is deprecated anyway)
lh (this isn't even a standard HTML 4.01 element)
nobr (not a standard element either; effect can be achieved with <span style="white-space: nowrap;"></span>)
tab (nonstandard)
tbody
tb (not a standard element)
textarea
tfoot
th
thead
title
body

Also, "embed" is nonstandard and should be replaced with "object."
There is an old android saying. In binary it reads: 01001001001001110110110100100000011011100110111101110100001
00000011101110110010101100001011100100110100101101110011001
1100100000011100000110000101101110011101000111001100100001. Makes you think, huh?

Just trying out the embed:
<div align="center"><embed src="http://www.mround.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ ... anana4.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#dee3e7" width="400" height="400"></div>
And the applet:
<p align="center">
<APPLET codebase="http://www.mround.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ ... ng/orbits/" code="orbits.class" width="512" height="512"> <PARAM name="pixelSize" value="4E9"> <PARAM name="fps" value="50"> <PARAM name="simSpeed" value="1E7"> <PARAM name="mouseMagnifier" value="0.002"> <PARAM name="G" value="6.673E-11"> <PARAM name="image1" value="sun.gif"> <PARAM name="r1" value="695.5E6"> <PARAM name="m1" value="1.98892E30"> <PARAM name="x1" value="0"> <PARAM name="y1" value="0"> <PARAM name="vx1" value="0"> <PARAM name="vy1" value="0"> <PARAM name="image2" value="jupiter.gif"> <PARAM name="r2" value="71492000">

<PARAM name="vy7" value="-6625">

</p>
Hmmm. We also need a <param> tag if applet is to work properly.
Who is expert enough to come up with a definitive list? xouper? shanek?

< doesn't work yet, but we can still use & # 6 0 ; (without the spaces) to explain tags like this: <table>

The odd greek letter like &pi; is useful as well but we can always use the numerical version like this I suppose: π

I notice that the italics code doesn't work. and the list code does not work for the following reasons:
  • you
    should
    resign
    or
    maybe
    not
