In today's world We found the plane! won't be nearly as big a story as We're closer to finding the plan...
CNN is really pissing me off.
It's a mockery of the news without the humor.

If it were anyone other than the Chinese claiming this, I'd be prone to believe it.

The batteries are due to die today (thirty days) but that's the minimum spec so maybe not. they may have a few more days. I don't know how they're design to fail; all at once or just ping less and less frequently as power is depleted.April 7
Signals picked up by a black-box detector attached to an Australian ship were consistent with aircraft flight recorders, Australian officials said.
Two signals have been detected off the northwest coast of Australia, with the first held for 2.5 hours before contact was lost and the second for around 13 minutes. Confirmation of whether the signals are related to the missing flight could take several days, said Angus Houston, who is heading the Australian agency coordinating the search.
While the signals are about 300 nautical miles away from the location where a Chinese patrol ship detected a signal earlier in the week, but authorities noted that sound can travel great distances in deep water.

The DailyMail has been a thorn in my side lately with this story. First the plane was bombed, then it was a hijacking with the plane hidden on some remote island, then the plane was hacked with a mobile phone (for those who know anything about commercial aircraft, you can see why that one aggravates me so much), now apparently it's pilot suicide (which although plausible, is not a substantiated theory).Bruce wrote:In today's world We found the plane! won't be nearly as big a story as We're closer to finding the plan...

I had no idea a plane would have trouble maintaining altitude with empty fuel tanks, you'd think they could fly higher without all that fuel weight.

A source, reported to be a member of Russia's FSB secret service, told the Russian paper: "All the passengers are alive.
"They have been divided into seven groups and are living in mud huts with almost no food."
The Russian report said 'Asian specialists' from the passengers and crew have been taken to a bunker in Pakistan.
The details, reported here by the Sun, will add to the uncertainty for the loved ones of those on board the missing plane.

Latest CNN nutball idea is that the jet was landed and refueled and took off again.
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Re: Malaysia Airlines loses contact
Given the latest "news" on this incident that the plane was deliberately flown to evade detection...how does that even make sense? If there was a plan to crash the plane then why steal the plane and maneuver it such that it would avoid detection and fly it all the way south practically to Australia to let it crash when it ran out of fuel instead of just shutting off the engines and letting it crash into the ocean in the first place?
Then again, there isn't much that makes sense in this story.

Suicide is the only rational answer I can come up with. If the pilot wanted the plane to disappear without a trace, he was fairly successful.

http://www.theweek.co.uk/world-news/fli ... and-runwayAccording to recent reports, investigators have shifted their attention to Zaharie after discovering that he had used a flight simulator he had at home to rehearse a landing on a short island runway in a remote area of the southern Indian Ocean.
Although he had deleted the drills before taking command of flight MH370, The Sunday Times reports that computer experts were able to retrieve them.
