Looking up a link for a hiLARious Anax's Mom Joke™ I something intense:
The film probably has more than its share of unlikely/illustrious fans. One such personage was Sam Cohen, inventor of the neutron bomb, whose favorite movies were – ironically enough – Repo Man and Dr. Strangelove. He called Alex Cox 14 years after the film came out, asking to have lunch.

Cox recalls Cohen's words:
"My daughter took me to see this film, and here was this nutcake, our hero, lobotomized, head bobbing. A cop stops him, opens the trunk, and — voila! He's neutronized!" Sam had no doubt there was a Neutron Bomb in Otto's trunk.

"It was the quintessential neutron bomb in the trunk... what we call a SADM - a Strategic Area Denial Munition." He and the Russian politician General Lebed gave press conferences a couple of years ago to draw attention to the number of ex-Soviet SADMs which had gone missing — hundreds of them, sold on the black market to whoever was buying. He thinks a SADM may have levelled the Federal Building in Oklahoma. ..later he reconsidered, and called me again. "It wasn't a Neutron Bomb in the trunk - it was an enormous concentration of nuclear material - it was gamma rays that killed the cop."
Cohen believed that the neutron bomb was the most moral weapon ever developed, one that spared innocent lives and stopped short of causing unnecessary devastation. "The Neutron Bomb totally conformed to the so-called Christian principles of a Just War. I got a medal from the Pope in Rome, in 1979."

Not the cars. The curbside service.

Being not an American you are probably not conversant with A&W root beer.

The beverage is still available, but there is nowhere you can go get it delivered right to your car by a young fellow in a snappy uniform.

Wow. A little slice of the past. Snappy uniforms too?

There are a few A&W locations in the Midwest, but those are configured like fast food restaurants.

My memory of the uniforms is a bit fuzzy.

I'm sure that they still have uniforms but they probably look like typical fast food place uniforms.

They have A&W in Okinawa. Free root beer refills with the floats even. But I don’t think I’ve ever met a Japanese person other than my ex-wife who doesn’t scream some version of “Medicine!” after taking a sip. Yet another reason :freedom:!

Some Venerable 沖縄人 always take me to an A&W and never scream " medicine" because they seem to like it. Granted, they grew up on Spam and rice, so overly sweet root beer seems tremendous.

It's true that the Japanese tend to not like root beer. It's not easy to find over here, even though most other popular US soft drinks are widely available. You can find root beer at certain shops that specialize in imported foods. To me, an ice cream float has to be made with root beer, or it just isn't right. Japanese ice cream floats are generally terrible, imho. They are made either with melon soda (yuck) or Coke (which is terrible with ice cream). Also, they put ice in it and put the ice cream on top of the ice. It's god-awful.

But outside the US, yeah, I think root beer just isn't very popular. They also say it's too sweet, besides the medicine taste. I guess it's different if you grow up with it.

Root beer is not easy to export. Most "root beers" are like A&W and suck like Buttwiper sucks as an 'murican beer. Idiot gaijin will drink it and 頭がい外人 will tolerate it when there is no alternative. The really good actual root beers are from small companies which simply will not make it to Schenectady, let alone Japan.

The Japanese do not understand ice cream.

Okay, unfair in that there are a few places situated where 外人 congregate so someone has the sense to create a franchise, but for the most part, they do not "get it."

I do not doubt root beer drinking Japanese exist. Just that I've only ever met one. Besides, you're citing "Okinawans" who, as every "good" Japanese knows, are always a little suspect. Not only did they allow themselves to be successfully invaded (After all Japan has done for them!), they lived under :freedom: for nearly thirty years. They also seem to take a little too much enjoyment out of life which is never to be trusted.

And how do they repay us? By driving on the WRONG SIDE!!!

They even put up 記念碑 memorial markers to commemorate not having to drive on the correct side of the road anymore.

Yes. A thousand times this. "Please, let us take your lovely ice cream drink and ruin it with a cup full of small ice rocks."

I'm not even going to dignify this with a response.
