1969 saw the first flights of the 747 and Concorde, the first man on the moon, and was the year Ted Hoff designed the architecture for the first microprocessor - the 4004 (though that wasn't built and sold until 1971).

So yes, 1969 was a landmark year, and it's difficult to believe now that those iconic aircraft and spacecraft were designed, built, and flown, before microprocessors existed.

↑ Less spectacular, but let's not forget that a large part of contemporary stuff we take for granted goes back to the 19th century (fridges, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, trains, metal bridges and frameworks…).

Years ago, a Moon landing conspiracy guy I knew in Japan* used to claim that since his iPhone had more processing power than the lunar landers, that was "proof" it never happened. I think I tried asking him if he believed in German V-2 rockets, but don't remember his response.

* I don't know why there seems to be such an overrepresentation of conspiracy theory foreigners in Japan, but I think it has something to do with poor language skills and social isolation.
