My father was going to build one (himself) after my oldest sister was born; 1955 or so. He never got around to it because his company kept moving him from place to place. I've seen his plans. It was a concrete L shaped structure about 20'x6'x6 for the long side, 10x6x6 for the short side. All living was done in the 20' span, all storage and 'personal' done in the 10. It had one entry, like shown in your diagram. I don't recall a radiation detector or air filter, or even a 'hatch', but there must have been at least one of the three.

I would like one with internet.

Interesting.

BTW, The King James translation was already slightly archaic English in 1611 as a deliberate stylistic choice.

The more you think about it, the stranger the convention becomes. People used to think "of course the drug store has a restaurant." It's like someone today saying "Of course McDonald's sells aspirin and garden hose."

The restaurant had the "Standard seven-sandwich menu."

Back in the day when we were not risking our little pink, brown and black butts to keep the windows of the captains of industry clean,we had ground work.

The above link is to a store this rather strapping long haired Hippie boyo encountered Lester Maddox opening around 7am while cleaning his store front windows.
Me : "Morning governor"
Lester: Nods enters and locks the door
... The stars were suns, but so far away they were just little points of light ... The scale of the universe suddenly opened up to me. It was a kind of religious experience. There was a magnificence to it, a grandeur, a scale which has never left me. Never ever left me.
Carl Sagan
