The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

I remember finding a tiny stone arrow head and the chill to be touching a physical piece of the past last held by its maker.
Imagine finding that in 1892.
... The stars were suns, but so far away they were just little points of light ... The scale of the universe suddenly opened up to me. It was a kind of religious experience. There was a magnificence to it, a grandeur, a scale which has never left me. Never ever left me.

@StuartHumphryes
I've restored this original colour autochrome from 1926, taken at the proposed site of the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in the Crow Indian Reservation, Montana. The chap on the right (named Curley) was one of General Custer’s scouts. (This isn't colourised).

@StuartHumphryes
Has an army ever looked so ill-prepared for modern warfare? This astounding (original colour) photo from 1913 shows the 7th regiment of French armoured cavalrymen at their camp northeast of Lyon in France, only a year before they joined the insanity of the First World War.

I say allegedly because I never saw anybody dressed that way other than in ads or on TV.

Note: I lived in NYC and was frequently in midtown Manhattan, so supposedly I should have seen what was fashionable.
They only wore that shit in San Francisco and Provincetown.

"Druze woman of Mount Lebanon", Tancrède Dumas, 1889.
The most elaborate of all Lebanese headdresses was the tantour, a silver cone worn by the noble married women of the mountains. Young girls wore them if they were of royal birth.

Similarity of the tantour and the conical headdress of European women from the time of the Crusades through the 15th century has led to the hypothesis that the tantour may have been introduced in Lebanon by the Crusaders.

On the other hand, evidence from the Graeco- Roman reliefs at Kartaba, Lebanon, shows that a sort of cutoff cone headdress with veil was worn in Lebanon much earlier than the Crusader period.

Its height and composition were in proportion to the wealth of its owner. The most splendid tantours were of gold and as high as 30 inches. They were encrusted with diamonds, pearls and other precious jewels.
And about the Druze:
Wikipedia wrote:The Epistles of Wisdom is the foundational text of the Druze faith. The Druze faith incorporates elements of Isma'ilism, a branch of Shia Islam, Gnosticism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Neoplatonism, Pythagoreanism, and other philosophies and beliefs, creating a distinct and secretive theology based on an esoteric interpretation of scripture, which emphasises the role of the mind and truthfulness. Druze believe in theophany and reincarnation or the transmigration of the soul. Druze believe that at the end of the cycle of rebirth, which is achieved through successive reincarnations, the soul is united with the Cosmic Mind (al-ʻaql al-kullī).

The "Duke of York" who did rather well for himself was of course George VI, ascending to the throne after that American divorcee gold digging slut came over here and stole one of our royals, made him renounce his royalty and took him back to America.

Wouldnt happen today.
