Interesting sidelight:

In Yiddish (all spellings phonetic as if English) ...

Tea == Tay (presumably from German)

Teapot == Chaynik (from Russian)

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

The first thought that came to mind was that's a good example of how there is beauty and symmetry in science.

And then the next thought was, someone (or a bunch of someones) spent a lot of time figuring all that stuff out.

And then I thought, I'm glad none of that work was in any of my grad school homework assignments.

And then I thought, I'm grateful other people are interested enough to do that work so that I can enjoy the results.

And then I thought, other people are probably glad they don't have to do the research in computer science that I enjoy doing, so maybe it evens out.

And then I thought, sometimes maybe I think too much.

And then I thought, it's not really my fault, it's how my brain is wired.

And then I thought, maybe they have a drug for that . . .

. . . but instead, I went and refilled my coke.

Now, where was I. Oh yeah, hit the submit button before any more thoughts spring forth, else I'll be here all day.

Another good case for government provided narcotics. :)

Happy New Year yolks.

And while I hate to wish my life away, I'm deeply cheered to say goodbye to two thousand fucking eighteen.

Oh, and FUCK!

I had all those exact same thoughts, and one additional thought.....

January 1st is the only day of the year in which I have a full day to think all these thoughts. All caught up on shopping, TV watching, internet, housework, family time, honey-do list.....nothing is open today......don't want to start anything new because I'm back to work tomorrow.........

Almost forgot what it's like to feel bored. :|

I think not.

In fiction it really happened, but the idea was real.
