Half a century ago, the entirety of ARPANET, predecessor of the internet, was just 45 computers connected to 40 nodes.

The logical map above shows the state of the internet in Sept. 1973. It was charted by Advanced Research Projects Agency (since renamed the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) for the ARPAnet Completion Report (PDF), published in Jan. 1978.
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

What I gathered from a French cheese promotion site is that the FDA is wary of anything made from raw milk, and that there are apparently (unspecified) pressure groups who want it banned completely.
Also that roquefort is taxed at 300%, which they consider protectionism.

Yet here you can buy any cheese and have it delivered by FedEx to Murica within 24 h.

The elitist in me wants to agree but the glutton in me realizes that there is no better fit for a real 'Merican burger (although pepper-jack is a good second and there's no sin in having both).

And, FWIW,...
Total U.S. per capita consumption of natural cheese increased for the third straight year in 2013. Americans consume more Italian style cheeses than other types, followed by American style cheeses. Over the past few decades, total U.S. per capita consumption of processed cheeses has been on a downward trend, and fell for the third straight year in 2013.
  • Total U.S. per capita consumption of natural cheese reached a record 33.7 pounds in 2013. This was 0.4 percent higher than 2012 when the previous record high was set.

2013 per capita consumption of cheddar cheese increased by 1 percent to 9.66 pounds. This was 0.79 pounds less than the record per capita consumption set in 2006. Per capita consumption of other American style cheese fell slightly in 2013 from 2012’s record high to 3.7 pounds.

Total per capita consumption of Italian style cheese increased slightly in 2013 to 14 pounds. This was still less than the record of 14.09 pounds set in 2011.

Among other cheese types, per capita consumption of Swiss cheese fell by 4.5 percent in 2013. At 1.05 pounds, per capita consumption of Swiss cheese has declined by 16.7 percent since 2007.

Per capita consumption of Hispanic cheese increased in 2013 by nearly 6 percent to 0.71 pounds.

At 6.37 pounds, 2013 per capita consumption of processed cheese products was the lowest since 1974, declining 3.9 percent from 2012.

It's not Vermont Cheddar. It's just "Vermont."

A worthy discussion of bad graphs:

http://www.thefunctionalart.com/2020/06 ... hould.html
Psychopathic charts, lines that should be bars, and picking cherries
I was hoping to withdraw from the world during the Summer and devote time to activities that require deep concentration—reading, writing, designing, and also this,—but it seems that the run-up to the November election will bring a deluge of bad charts. I should have known better; How Charts Lie may need a sequel soon.

The following are just from today:

Only a psychopath would think of designing a chart like this:
