This shot was taken by me in Florida in Sarasota. I have no real idea as to the motivation behind why this sign exists. The clever captions write themselves. All I can think of is that the powers that be believe in an overabundance of caution. And/or that the population is so challenged, due to substances or the sun or Geo-magnetic anomalies, that such cautions are necessary. Judge for yourselves.

n.b. This is real, not photoshopped or dicked around with in any way.

Florida state Representative says God has told him to rewrite abortion bill with no exceptions

A Florida state representative told a group that God told him to a rewrite an abortion bill without exceptions for rape or incest.

In a speech given to Women for Responsible Legislation group in Pensacola, Florida, state representative Mike Hill said God spoke directly to him about a restrictive abortion bill he had previously tried and failed to pass in Florida’s legislature.

"As plain as day, God spoke to me,” Mr Hill, a Republican, told the group. “He said 'that wasn't my bill,' talking about the heartbeat detection bill that I filed. He said 'that wasn't my bill.'"

“I knew immediately what he was talking about,” the state representative confirmed.

NEW PORT RICHEY — Two Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies were wounded early Saturday in a gun battle that started after a man shot at his wife's Amazon Alexa smart speaker.

One bullet grazed a deputy's hand, and another wounded the accused shooter in the head. But K-9 Deputy Chris Stone suffered life-threatening injuries when a gunshot to his leg severed his femoral artery, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said. Stone, 41, was rushed into emergency surgery at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point and was recuperating in his hospital room Saturday afternoon, the Sheriff's office said.

...

Deputies arrived at 7349 Humbolt Ave. after a woman called 911 around midnight to report a domestic dispute between her parents. Peterson had shot at her mother's Alexa, the daughter told deputies. The couple had been known to fight but usually their arguments did not escalate to calling the police, Nocco said.

Peterson's wife came outside as soon as deputies arrived. Nocco said she had been battered and her husband refused to leave his home. Inside, he had a handgun and a semi-automatic rifle.

Just before 2 a.m., deputies said they decided to enter the home after Peterson refused to surrender. That's when bullets began to spray from the house and into the surrounding suburban neighborhood. As they entered the home, Sheriff's deputies exchanged fire with Peterson, Nocco said.

"The suspect tired to kill everybody that was outside that house," Nocco said. "This was a battle. An absolute gun battle."

True Floridian awesomeness. :coolspecs:

LPD: Woman arrested for turning in husband's firearms to Lakeland police
The Ledger (Lakeland FL)
LAKELAND — A 32-year-old woman was arrested on June 15 when she gathered her husband's guns to turn them over to the Lakeland Police Department.

According to Courtney Irby's arrest affidavit, she told police her husband had been taken to jail for trying to run over her with a car. Irby said she went to Joseph Irby's apartment on Village Center Drive in Lakeland and searched for the guns she knew he had.

When she told a Lakeland police officer she had the guns with her to turn them in, he replied, "So are you telling me that you committed an armed burglary?" and Irby answered, "Yes, I am, but he wasn't going to turn them in, so I am doing it," according to reports.

Police verified Irby had never stayed at her husband's apartment until the day of the burglary.

Officers made contact with Joseph Irby, who was still incarcerated at the Polk County Jail, and he said he wanted to press charges against his wife for entering his apartment and taking the guns, reports say.

Court records show that Irby applied for a temporary injunction against her husband and the two were in the process of a divorce.

She was charged with armed burglary of a dwelling and grand theft of a firearm.

Makes me proud to be a resident.

Lakeland is where a really super antique gun show is three times a year. 45min North.

I should post a map with all of these things on it.

A song composed entirely of news headlines that start with "florida man".

With all that gear he's unable to avoid distortion/clipping.

Much more sympathetic to the subject of the title than Neil Young's stinkeroo Southern Man. 8)

Florida suckered again:
A second Florida city paid hackers thousands to get its computer systems back

Officials from Lake City agreed Tuesday to pay 42 bitcoin, roughly $426,000, to hackers who seized the city's computer systems June 10, ending a 15-day standoff.
It's the second city in Florida to fall prey to ransomware attackers this summer: On June 19, Riviera Beach officials voted to pay their requested ransom of 65 bitcoin, close to $600,000, to hackers who disabled the city's online services in late May.

Lake City police said the city paid a $10,000 deductible to its insurance company, which will cover the rest of the ransom.
In a statement, the city called the attack a "triple threat," a ransomware program that attacked the city's network three different ways and took out email systems, landline phones and online credit card payment.
