The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

On the bright side, I bet they don't have a rat problem.
In fact, I bet they don't have a lot of problems.
Well, except for that one problem. (Ha. Ha.)

I'm guessing anything with those bright colors and that many pointy things will sting the piss out of you.
... The stars were suns, but so far away they were just little points of light ... The scale of the universe suddenly opened up to me. It was a kind of religious experience. There was a magnificence to it, a grandeur, a scale which has never left me. Never ever left me.

These are bee-eaters ("guêpier" in French, i. e. "wasper"):

So clearly they eat hymenopterans. Nesting is done in burrows in sandy river banks.

At first glance those birds looked like a caterpillar to me. Love that spider face too.

Oh my gosh, that’s not going to end well for one of the two, or perhaps both.

Re: Not Suitable for Kitten Pics Thread
I went on a dive trip near Reyong, Thailand. Which is a few hours southeast of Bangkok.
It was my first real drift dive which was fun, but the sightseeing itself was poor. Much better in the southern islands.
Probably a story for another day, but the current was really strong. I asked one of the better guides* if that was normal and he said he was nervous. (Ha! Ha!) It was like being in a jet skimming over the ground. But the "ground" was a lot of dead coral.
* Maybe I should put this in my expat retirement thread. The expat guide I liked was another "taken to the cleaners by a Thai woman" veteran. He had a great story about how his friends pitched in after his divorce and set him up with a high class ... Oh, wait. This isn't the adult forum. (Ha. Ha.) My "guide" was an American bum who seemed to think just being there meant his job was done and then couldn't even manage that when he more or less ditched me on a night dive. Not the standard look for one minute and wait on the surface procedure. I mean, he swam back to the boat without telling me. I had some experience by then, so I wasn't too worried, but what kind of fucking "guide" drops their dive buddy at night?
