U.S. states accuse 26 drugmakers of generic drug price fixing in sweeping lawsuit

Twenty-six drug manufacturers were sued on Wednesday by the attorneys general of most U.S. states and several territories, which accused them of conspiring to reduce competition and drive up generic drug prices.

The lawsuit accused Novartis’ Sandoz unit, Teva Pharmaceuticals’ Actavis unit, Mylan, Pfizer Inc and other drugmakers of conspiring to rig the market between 2009 and 2016 for more than 80 drugs.

Attorneys general from 46 states, the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories said the defendants prioritized profit over the public interest, depriving millions of consumers of lower prices for needed medication.

Ten executives, including many sales and marketing directors, are also defendants in the 543-page complaint filed in a federal court in Connecticut.

TN Bill Will Let Kids Skip an Hour of School Each Day to Go to Church

The Tennessee legislature passed a bill yesterday, House Bill 2542/Senate Bill 2473, that would force public schools to allow kids to miss class for up to one hour each day in order to attend church. (They would also allow school buses to transport those kids, as long as the churches paid for it.)

Previously, schools boards were allowed to adopt such policies, but this law would mandate it, meaning the districts could not punish any kids who participated. Just last December, the Knox County School Board rejected the policy after giving it a trial run. Even then, they only let kids skip one hour of school per month. It was still a disaster.

If the governor signs this bill into law, it would go into effect beginning this fall. And it will very likely become law since the State Senate passed it 31-0 on Friday, and the State House passed it 94-0 yesterday. No one in power wants to oppose this.

Interesting.

When I was a kid (for all I know maybe still), there was a "release time" program in NYC public schools whereby the Roman Catholic kids were allowed to go to religious instruction while the rest of us got music appreciation or some such.

Maybe ed knows more details.

Yup. Wednesdays at 2 I think. I think it was done in prep for first communion and then confirmation. IOW not all the time. No thats wrong, somebody was always getting first communion. I just dont have a recollection of this being a multi year thing for me.

I don't have a problem it. If the state wants to help select silly parents teach further silliness to their kids, I'm good with that. Fuck 'em.

But I bet they'll be some pretty wised-up kids that find a way to game this system to skip a few classes. That's what I'd do.

Whereas Jewish kids had to go th cheder after school.

See what you miss by not having a politically powerful religious hierarchy, no matter how influential you are as an ethnic group?

ANALYSIS: US Falls Out of Top 10 Average Internet Speeds Globally in 2020, but Global Speeds Faster Than Ever
  • The United States has fallen back out of the top 10 to 11th on average internet speeds rankings after years of ranking between 8th-10th.
  • Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Switzerland have remained the most consistent top performers in global internet speed tests over the past decade.
  • Other countries that have lost notable ranking over the past several years include Canada, Japan, Australia, Norway, and Finland.
  • Global internet speed averages continue to climb, and mobile broadband reaching record highs of global adoption.

I can't speak for 'Murica, but I'm getting about eight times the speed (80mb/s and 11ms) I currently need. Folks in Bumphuc Ruralalea are killing the stats. And lest it go unsaid in any thread, Pai is still a fucking fag.

My internet speed (below the global average) is plenty fast enough for me, but if I want faster I can pay more for it.

This is a good system, the alternative being paying higher taxes to subsidize a luxury not everybody wants.

So fuck the paternalistic global average.

Slower average internet speed == FREEDOM! :freedom:

The number of stars, the number of stripes are all wrong. The blue field is too big. Fuck, that is an awful attempt to draw the flag.
