"Quand je me regarde, je me désole.
Quand je me compare, je me console."
– Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord
I'll try a translation:
Looking at myself, I'm appalled.
Comparing to others, I'm comforted.

Interesting, albeit unsavory, dude:
His career spanned the regimes of Louis XVI, the years of the French Revolution, Napoleon, Louis XVIII, and Louis-Philippe. Those Talleyrand served often distrusted him but, like Napoleon, found him extremely useful. The name "Talleyrand" has become a byword for crafty, cynical diplomacy.

Napoléon thought of him as "shit in a silk stocking".

Why is it, that cat food manufacturers come up with flavours like shrimp, duck, chicken etc. When all cats want to do is lick their own arses. So why hasn't anyone come up with cat-arse flavoured cat food?

Cat food also has to appeal (at least in principle) to those who buy it.

As it might be baby food. :BigGrin3:

I think it's more a question of appealing in principle.

After all, it's not the cat that buys the stuff.

Gillette, back in the day, created ads to appeal to women since it was women that bought their men's grooming supplies.

I thought that <desole> was more bereft, elementally saddened, more an absence of feeling with an overtone of sadness. I always liked that word.

Also look what I found

Seems to me that there is hope.

The only thing sillier than imperial is measuring an LED bulb's brightness in 'equivalent' incandescent watts. It's okay for now but even now there are kids that never met an incandescent bulb. We've pretty much fucked them for life!

Has anyone thought about how identical twins can cheat in exams?

Scientific facts tells us that identical twins can "feel" what the other twin can. So what about a twin sitting an exam that stabs the question in Morse code into her arm with a compass. Surely then, the other twin in a remote location can "feel" the question, do the necessary research and "stab the answer back" thus fulfilling the necessary criteria to get into Oxford or Harvard.

Think about it. We should stop these cheating bitches. And deport them.

You know I'm right.

Why were incandescent light bulbs measured in watts in the first place instead of lumens?

I think the only answer is that people prefer to use smaller numbers. With lumens you need to add an extra zero on the end.

The other thing is when you use "incandescent watt equivalencies" it's easier to see how much energy you're saving. Because LEDs cost so much more, you expect a return on investment by saving electricity.
