At the risk of dragging Scotland into the UK thread, sounds like the sturgeon/ salmon snp civil war is heating up.

“ The former SNP leader is allegedly accusing his one-time protege of misleading the Holyrood parliament and contravening the ministerial code. If true, that would be the end of Sturgeon’s premiership.”

Has sturgeon been up to something fishy, or is salmond floundering?

Covid: Women on exercise trip 'surrounded by police'

Two women out for a walk in the park.
Image
Two women have described how they were surrounded by police, read their rights and fined £200 each after driving five miles to take a walk.
The women were also told the hot drinks they had brought along were not allowed as they were "classed as a picnic".
Guidance for the current lockdown says people can travel for exercise as long as it is in their "local area".
The police force involved, Derbyshire Police, said driving for exercise was "not in the spirit" of lockdown.
One of the would-be walkers, Jessica Allen, assumed "someone had been murdered" when she arrived at Foremark Reservoir on Wednesday afternoon.
"As we drove in there was a police van, a police car, and there were loads of police there," said Ms Allen, who lives in Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire.
"I genuinely thought someone had been murdered; the place is normally so quiet. The next thing, my car is surrounded. I got out of my car thinking 'There's no way they're coming to speak to us'. Straight away they start questioning us.
"One of them started reading my rights and I was looking at my friend thinking 'This must be a joke'.
"I said we had come in separate cars, even parked two spaces away and even brought our own drinks with us. He said 'You can't do that as it's classed as a picnic'."
Seems a bit extreme.
How far can you travel for exercise?
Guidance issued by the Cabinet Office states that people can leave their homes for exercise but should not travel outside their "local area".
However, the actual legislation does not specify a maximum distance that people are allowed to travel for exercise.
Both the guidance and legislation state people can exercise with one other person, as Jessica Allen and Eliza Moore did.
Human rights barrister Adam Wagner said: "There is no law against travelling to exercise. The guidance is not legally binding and the police have no power to enforce it unless it is reflected in the lockdown regulations which in this case it is not."
Derbyshire Police said: "It is up to each individual officer on a case-by-case basis to decide what is reasonable as the legislation does not proscribe a distance."

The kingdom is dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomed!

Bad omen? Tower of London raven missing, feared dead

Legend says at least six ravens must be kept at the castle or the kingdom will fall

One of the ravens at the Tower of London is feared to have died, in a potentially gloomy omen for Britain. It means that the tower is close to having fewer than six ravens, a level that would spell doom for the kingdom, according to legend.

Ravenmaster Christopher Skaife confirmed that one of the birds, Merlina, known as the queen of the tower’s unkindness of ravens, is presumed dead after being missing for weeks.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Skaife said: “Merlina is a free-spirited raven and has been known to leave the tower precincts on many occasion. I’m her buddy and she normally comes back to us, but this time she didn’t. So, I do fear that she is not with us any more.” He added: “Just before Christmas, before we went into the lockdown, we were putting the ravens to bed, and she didn’t come back.”

If confirmed, Merlina’s death would bring the number of ravens at the tower to just seven. According to legend if two more were to die the tower and the kingdom would fall.

But Skaife said that if Merlina did not return, the tower did have a reserve raven to ensure that at least six remained.

He said: “We do have seven ravens here at the Tower of London, six by royal decree. And of course I still have a spare one, so we’re OK at the moment.”

Lord Sumption tells stage 4 cancer patient her life is 'less valuable'

Peer’s remark made to woman with bowel cancer during TV debate on Covid lockdowns

The former supreme court justice Jonathan Sumption has been criticised for telling a woman with stage 4 cancer that her life was “less valuable” during a televised discussion of the costs of coronavirus lockdowns.

Appearing on the BBC One show The Big Questions on Sunday to discuss the question of whether lockdown was “punishing too many for the greater good”, Lord Sumption, one of the most prominent anti-lockdown campaigners, said he did not accept that “all lives are of equal value”.

The former justice, who served on the supreme court until 2018, said he believed his children’s and grandchildren’s lives were “worth more because they’ve got a lot more of it ahead”.

Responding to Sumption’s remarks, Deborah James, who has stage 4 metastatic bowel cancer and hosts the BBC’s You, Me and the Big C podcast, said: “With all due respect, I am the person who you say their life is not valuable.”

The peer then interrupted James, saying: “I didn’t say your life was not valuable, I said it was less valuable.”

James continued: “Who are you to put a value on life? In my view, and I think in many others, life is sacred and I don’t think we should make those judgment calls. All life is worth saving regardless of what life it is people are living.

UK says working to recover up 400,000 deleted records from police database

A coding problem led to the accidental deletion of up to 400,000 records from British police databases but specialists are working to recover the information from different systems, Home Secretary Priti Patel said on Wednesday.

“So first of all let me just clarify this - this is a coding issue,” Patel said, adding that she could not say how much had been retrieved so far. “We talk about a figure of 400,000 but the actual figure could actually be a lot less.”

Exodus Part II

Police broke up a wedding party with 400 guests in north London.
Officers found the windows at the Yesoday Hatorah Girls Senior School, a Charedi school in Stamford Hill, had been covered when they arrived at 21:15 GMT on Thursday.
The guests fled the scene when officers arrived.
The organisers were fined £10,000 for breaching coronavirus regulations, while five other guests were issued £200 fines, police said.
The area is home to the UK's largest Charedi community of strictly Orthodox Jews.
Det Ch Sup Marcus Barnett of the Met Police said: "This was a completely unacceptable breach of the law.
"People across the country are making sacrifices by cancelling or postponing weddings and other celebrations and there is no excuse for this type of behaviour.
"My officers are working tirelessly with the community and we will not hesitate to take enforcement action if that is required to keep people safe."

Stamford Hill is part of the borough of Hackney, which has a Covid-19 infection rate of 625.43 cases per 100,000 people.
The England average rate is 471.31 per 100,000 people.
London is under an England-wide lockdown, which prevents social mixing between households.
Londoners are asked to only leave home for limited reasons such as shopping, going to work, seeking medical assistance, or avoiding domestic abuse.

Ministers consider £500 payment to everyone with COVID

Ministers are considering paying £500 to everyone in England who tests positive for Covid-19, in a dramatic overhaul of the self-isolation support scheme, the Guardian can reveal.

The proposed change is thought necessary because government polling found only 17% of people with symptoms are coming forward to get a test, owing to fears that a positive result could stop people from working.

The universal payment is the “preferred position” of Matt Hancock’s Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and would cost up to £453m a week, 12 times the cost of the current system, according to an official policy paper seen by the Guardian.

The 16-page document, dated 19 January and marked “Official Sensitive”, also proposes that police should be given access to health data for the first time to crack down on quarantine breaches.

Only because you culturally appropriated Ireland.

Meanwhile, while it became RACISTS to say "China/Chinese/Wuhan Flu" only after The Donald said it, it is NOT RACISTS to say the "UK Flu," because people care less about the UKers than they do about the Wogs the Chinese have enslaved and are systematically wiping out from the gene pool.

Wrong

As the non white population of the UK is 13%, non -white....it is 13% racist to say UK flu. Add an extra percentage point for merely saying that. Then subtract the proper metric™ To get the real answer.
