Prince Harry to join Trump and Queen for private lunch during state visit (CNN)
Britain's Prince Harry will join Queen Elizabeth II at a private lunch with Donald Trump and his wife Melania next month, CNN has learned.

The lunch takes place on the first day of the US President's state visit to the UK.

Prince Harry's wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is not expected to attend. She has not resumed public engagements since the birth of their son Archie Harrison.

Historically, Harry has only participated in the state visit by Spain's monarch, where he accompanied the Spanish delegation to Westminster Abbey. CNN's royal source says that going forward, they hope to see the Sussexes participate in more state events.

...
My guess: The Queen has to, but Prince Harry wanted to.

EU citizens denied vote in European elections to sue UK government

Exclusive: Campaign groups prepare legal challenge following ‘systemic denial’ of suffrage

The government is facing the prospect of being sued by campaigners for EU citizens in the UK and British nationals abroad who were denied a vote in the European parliament elections.

John Halford, a public law specialist at Bindmans, said this week’s electoral fiasco was something a democracy should not tolerate.

“The right to vote is the foundation for all citizenship rights,” he said. “Last Thursday saw a large-scale, systematic, openly discriminatory denial of that right. The case we plan to bring will show that this is not something the law will tolerate and that there must be accountability and consequences.”

Halford is working with the the3million group in the UK, which campaigns for the rights of EU citizens after Brexit, and also with British in Europe, which campaigns for Britons settled elsewhere in the bloc.
[…]
Many EU citizens were turned away from polling stations with their names crossed off the ballot, while Britons overseas protested that their ballot papers only showed up in the days before or did not show up at all.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Peter Willsman: Labour suspends NEC member over anti-Semitism remarks

A member of Labour's ruling body, the NEC, has been suspended over remarks he reportedly made about the party's anti-Semitism row.

LBC radio reported that Peter Willsman was recorded saying the Israeli embassy was "almost certainly" behind the row.

["Snip!"--Ed.]

He is accused of saying: "This is off the record. It's almost certain who is behind all this anti-Semitism against Jeremy [Corbyn], almost certainly it's the Israeli embassy."

Mr Willsman was involved in another row last year, after he was recorded saying he had never seen anti-Semitism in the party ,and suggesting Jewish "Trump fanatics" were behind the accusations.

["Snip!"--Ed.]

Mr Willsman was re-elected to the NEC - the body acts as Labour's governing body and oversees the direction of the party and its policy-making process - last year.

Labour has been plagued by accusations of anti-Semitism since mid-2016 and some of its MPs have quit the party, citing its handling of the claims as one of the reasons.

Leader Jeremy Corbyn has insisted he is getting to grips with the issue and has improved the party's internal disciplinary procedures.

54 minutes of Sargon, but I bailed out after 10 seconds and I don't expect anyone else even to go that far.

I just wanted to make sure the title meant what I feared it meant. It did.

Missus Battenberg is no fool.

She knows what THOSE PEOPLE are like! :lmao:

The Queen bans Meghan Markle from wearing jewellery made famous by Diana – but Kate Middleton IS allowed
The Sun

Aw shoot. It was fake news all along :poutpout:

Meghan Markle Will Be Borrowing the Queen’s Jewelry After All
Vanity Fair
...

The Sun claimed Wednesday that the Queen has banned Meghan Markle from wearing some items from the Royal Collection, particularly the pieces that belonged to the late Princess of Wales. However senior royal sources have told Vanity Fair that she will be allowed to wear jewels from the collection.

“The Duchess has worn pieces from the Royal Collection before so why would that stop now?” said one source, adding that Meghan wore the Queen Mary diamond bandeau from the collection on her wedding day.

Why Ceausescu’s 1978 state visit was far more humiliating than Trump’s ever could be

Buckingham Palace was advised to remove silver brushes from the dressing table so the guests didn't steal them

Image

The Queen has seldom had more holes in a state banquet seating plan. The leader of the opposition, the shadow foreign secretary, the Speaker and the leader of the Liberal Democrats have all ostentatiously refused ‘Her Majesty’s command’ to attend her banquet in honour of Donald Trump next week. The fact that the dinner is in honour of our greatest ally — and in the week we celebrate D-Day — seems to matter less than virtue points on social media.

Few will appreciate the irony of this petty posturing more than the Queen herself. For it is that same tranche of the liberal elite who remain responsible for the worst state visit of her reign.

It was a Labour prime minister, Harold Wilson, who invited the brutal Romanian despot Nicolae Ceausescu and his equally ghastly wife, Elena, to pay a state visit to Buckingham Palace in June 1978. By the time they arrived, Wilson had been replaced by Jim Callaghan, who was just as enthusiastic, as was the leader of the Liberal party. David Steel even presented the dictator with a labrador puppy called Gladstone (later renamed Corbu and promoted to honorary colonel in the Romanian army).

None cheered louder than the one paper granted an exclusive interview with Ceausescu ahead of the visit.

‘Mr Ceausescu,’ gushed the Guardian’s Hella Pick, ‘has shown immense courage in asserting Romania’s independence from the Russians and encouraging Romania’s nationalism’.

P. – S. As I haven't dined with the Queen for quite some time, what are these "silver brushes"? :?

How did I know that would be about Galloway even before I clicked it.

The real question is why anyone gave him a radio job in the first place.

I mean, who couldn't have seen that one coming. Reminds me of ABC firing Roseanne Barr when they discovered, shockingly (to no one) that she's a racist nutberg.

Obama “would put the UK to the back of the queue “

Trump “would work on it very, very quickly”

They prefer the lapdog.

He "knew his place."

Touched his forelock. Denigrated his own hoping to be let in the house. Oh did they laugh during his cake walks. Great fun.

In a way the deserve the frenetic boar.

Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

If I were a controversial president of the USA who needed to shore up support at home, I might very well quietly finance foreign protests against me if such were not spontaneously forthcoming. 8)
