A gaming first for me

Post by Nyarlathotep » Fri Jan 04, 2019 11:19 pm

Having to call off this weeks game because of player existence failure. I.e. One of the players died.

Farewell, John, old buddy. You will be missed.

Quick, ban him!

And sorry for your loss. :(

It's hard to find reliable friends these days that won't die and ruin your weekend. He could have at least given a 2 week notice or something. :x

Kind of a chilling wake up call for me.

I am a pretty fat guy. So was my friend. I have been far luckier than him, in that my body hasn't decided to say "fuck you" to me and saddle me with diabetes or frankly any of the maladies that usually accompany obesity (my blood pressure is at the high end of normal and I my cholesterol is better than a lot of people I know who eat right and exercise religiously). Him it did. By the time he died his kidneys were fucked and he was down one leg. I loved the guy like a brother, and I mean that literally, I considered him the brother I never had, but I don't want to go down the way he did.

I have been lucky, but on the other hand, he went from zero to dead in about three years. I think I really need to take better care of myself.Because I can't count on my luck holding.

Sorry to hear that.

Good luck on getting healthy nyar. Remember not to try too much at once. Just keep it small and sustainable steps.

I was nearly where you are in terms of weight.

I'd say don't just go on a diet. Consult a medical doctor and a nutritionist.

What he said.

If you get as little exercise as I do, you're liable to knock a gob of cholesterol loose and give yourself a heart attack or stroke.

Start by getting out of bed twice in the morning. That counts as 2 sit-ups per day instead of just one.

His HP went to 0. Ironic. Condolences.

BTW, you were starting to swim to get some exercise in. How is that going?

It’s going (though right now it’s too cold to use the outdoors pool at my apartment and my indoors municipal pool has been shut down for three months for “renovations”) and I have actually made some progress. Just not enough.

I’m in an exercise slump myself. I don’t really have the time to get to the gym often enough to justify paying for a membership. But recently, when I’m motivated, I’ll climb up and down the stairs in my apartment building. It’s not as good as swimming, but I can get the heart pumping pretty well in a pretty short time. I figure it’s better than nothing.

I had a colleague who lived in a two story apartment. He had something like this:

I asked him, why not just use the actual stairs? He said, can't watch TV from the stairway.

And they* say men can't multi-task. :P

Sorry for your buddy, Nyarl. One of the scourges of getting old is losing friends. (Be it to death, or just because they change.) :(

I'll add to the condolences. I'm glad to hear it's got you thinking in positive directions about your own health. That's a great way to honor friends gone too soon.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"
