Yeah, but that’s up in the mountains. Down here in the valleys we usually get JUUUUUUST enough to make driving a pain in the ass. Maybe a foot or so if it’s a really big one

Get ready, Nyarl:
What to expect

Monday - A few light snow showers may form in the Sierra in the morning as the first wave actually passes us to the south. Up to 3 inches of snow possible in Mono and Alpine Counties, up to an in around Tahoe, and light rain/snow for the far western valleys with no accumulation expected.

Tuesday-Tuesday Night - The next wave will arrive with snowfall on the increase. 6 to 12 inches of fresh snow possible around Lake level with up to 18 inches along the Sierra crest. Cold air that will be trapped in the valley may cause a concern for the evening commute. The current solutions have the best chance for snow in Lassen and Plumas Counties, but the potential is there for snow in the Reno-Carson areas with 1 to 2 inches of snow, but confidence in this scenario is low, but worth mentioning.

Wednesday - This storm has varied its position in the models, but snow levels look to be around 5,500 to 6,000 feet which would put the foothills and higher with the best chance for snow. The valley would likely start out as a mix and change to snow as the temperatures come down. A lot of moisture appears to be associated with this storm. 1 to 2 feet of snow possible above 7,000 feet.

Thursday - This will be the BIG one of this weeks winter storms. The biggest concern for this day will be the potential for blizzard conditions. We will be tapping into a very large area of moisture along with very high upper level winds. 2 to 3 feet of snow above 7,000 feet is not out of the question and could be even more. Snow levels will start above 6,000 feet, but crash to the valley floor behind the cold front. Any leftover moisture will likely bring snow to the valley floor.

Snow totals in the Sierra from this weeks storm could exceed 5+ feet in total. Be prepared for major delays on all mountain passes.

Here we had our first snow of the "winter": ~ 1 cm, lasted about five hours. This afternoon temperature was +9 (Celsius), ridiculous! :x
Look like I was wrong about how much snow we would get down here in the valley vs. up in the mountains. It's really fucking coming down. I might have to start writing a novel that is nothing but the phrase "All Work and No Play makes Jack a dull boy" over and over again then get some booze served to me by a ghost bartender. And there is gonna be two more days of this shit.

Excellent conditions for crafting your next novel, no?

Here my min/max thermometer shows we hit +12 (Celsius). Crazy.

Luckily I am down at a bit under 5000 feet, so my life is not threatened. But we will still probably get a good dumping on.

Reno is also famous for this: In 2008, at the age of 14, Taylor Wilson was the youngest person ever to produce nuclear fusion. That record only lasted until 2014. Apparently Taylor still lives in Reno.

How Taylor did it is well worth reading:

Smart kid. Actually never heard of him till now, thanks.

We also have Dawn Wells (Mary Anne on Gilligan's Island), and used to have one of my personal heroes, Bob Wilkins (Who used to host a show called Creature Feature out of Oakland when I was a kid). Sadly Bob died a few years back and I never got to meet him. More's the pity.

Renoites

Wikipedia generally has demonyms, so a quick way to find out is to just check Wikipedia.

They should follow the lead of Manchester UK ("Mancunians") and make it something unintuitive.

And furthermore get super pissy about it when people get it wrong.

I suggest "Riennese". :BigGrin3:

Seems we may have our own local serial killer.

Last week, there were a couple of murders in a little town nearby called Gardnerville. About 60-ish miles from Reno. The sort of town that usually measures homicides in years per murder rather than vice versa. Home invasions targetting elderly women living alone.

Then a few nights ago, there were two similar murders in Reno. Police haven't linked the Reno murders to the Gardnerville murders yet, but they did say there were "similarities". Last night, they shut down the freeway between Reno and Carson, looking for clues but they didn't say more than that.

I know some people are freaking out though.
