What's to watch?

External fertilization. You'd have to be an expert malacostracologist even to notice.

A bit of a snag with my terraforming activities.

It seems that crayfish blend in with their surroundings. That is to say that they blend in really really well.

I have no idea where they are or if they are even there. It is as if I never did anything.

Bummer.

Kudos to ed for not introducing an invasive species.

Ask some local what is good bait for a crawdad.

Children are good bait for crawdads? I don't think so.

Alligators, sure ...

Fatty meat (fresh, not rotten, contrary to popular belief), fish.
Without a dedicated trap, put the bait with some stones in a basket, immerse with a rope, add some floating device to get the rope back later (and hence the basket). After some hours, lift slowly or they will scamper away.

Note: crawfish are nocturnal and stay hidden during the day. So perhaps the first step would be to go out at night with a flashlight and try to see them. Watch out for pythons, hogs, rattlesnakes, gators and trilobites.

So children would be good bait for crawdads, as long as they are fat.

So ed was right.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

My granny was full of stories about how she went crawdad fishing when she was a kid: a basket with meat scraps and some stones, you just had to lift it slowly and they stayed put. Or so she said…
