Funny. I took that train daily for four years going to Tech and I can not recall delays or outages over that time. And the cars were from the turn of the century.

As I understand it, increased traffic on the remaining portion due to an influx of hipsters who can no longer afford to live in my old neighborhood or even Williamsburg.

Of course, neither can I, but having repudiated hipness I moved to the Midwest. 8)

It was funny back in the day. The train would rumble past apartments whose windows were even with the train's. We'd wave to the same people every day. There was one old woman near Vanderbilt (??) who used to hold her cat up and make it wave.
