Need psych-up music

Post by Bruce » Wed Feb 27, 2019 8:22 pm

Heard this song on the radio this morning. Good psych-up music. First time seeing the video though. The video is shit, but I still like the song.

Two weeks ago, dad mentioned he was having some back pain. When he said it was coming from his ribs, we convinced him to see a doc. Turned out to be pneumonia. Checked into hospital last week. They drained 2 liters of fluid from one lung! They also found spots on his liver and pancreas.

Biopsies all came in Sunday. Poor dad. Visited by 3 different doctors in one day. First one said lungs were clear and he could go home. Second said he had liver cancer but still treatable so he could live another 10 or 20 years. Third said he had stage 4 pancreas cancer and gave him 3 months; 6 months at most with chemo.

So much for back pain. Is it any wonder why dad hates docs and hospital?

Mom and sis are a mess. Dad has taken care of mom her whole life, and her body is starting to reject her transplanted heart, so she's going through rough immune system suppressing treatment herself right now. Dad also has been taking care of his parents, whom really ought to be in a nursing home b/c one has advanced stage alzheimer's and the other is not doing much better. When dad dies, their care goes to dad's younger brother. He's the asshole uncle that every family seems to have.

Uncle is heading up to Ohio from Georgia, and he hasn't changed his asshole attitude at all. Mom and sis are at their breaking point with him and are both planning to throw down. Mom's sisters are trying to get them calmed down, but they aren't having it.

I've come to learn something about myself over the past couple of years. Seems I'm a natural diplomat. When I come into the room, people who are normally at each other's throats will knock off the drama and go back to working together. This comes as a surprise to me because I've never noticed or even tried to be a diplomat. Little do they all know that I'm always screaming and swearing on the inside. I just stay calm on the outside in an effort to keep my own inner monologue at bay. Seeing people fight makes me nervous, so I diffuse situations with humor whenever people start to get snippity.

I've been told by both family and co-workers that they feel relieved when I'm around because "you have no idea what so-and-so are like when you leave the room". Wow. I wonder if things will be any different now that I'm aware of this.

In any case, I'm heading straight into a total shitstorm, and somewhere in the middle of it, I have to focus on helping dad get his affairs in order.

So, anyone know any other good psych-up songs? Survivor has some good ones, but I'm sure there are more.

Damn, that sucks Bruce.

Also your link doesn't seem to work.

Here's a catchy song I like.

As for music, our tastes are quite different. Perhaps some fiery Beethoven by Badura-Skoda on his 1815 Broadwood?

Link fixed.

Yeah, different tastes in music for sure. I've never even heard of most of these, except for Beethoven. Thanks though.

This one gets me pumped, but sounds better on the radio.

Oye.

Nothing to say.

Kind of hard to think of psych-up music after all of that.

I have a number of them from many different genres. I rotate them. Yesterday it was:

Today, it is:

Tomorrow it will be:

Without using t3h g00gl3s or this Bing Thing Gram's Mom uses to buy his butt-plugs:
  • 1. What is Lennon saying at the very beginning? just before Ringo plays the triplet on the hi-hat. He repeats this with every repeat of that phrase.
    2. What is the Clicking Sound heard under Lennon's opening saying? Hint it is not Ringo--or Paul--playing the toms.
    3. In what does he hold you in that you can feel his disease?
Spoiler:
  • 1. "Shoot me!"--yes. Yes! The bass tends to cover the "me."
    2. A rotary telephone.
    3. Arms, of course!: just like people think when you are blinded by the light, you get wrapped like a douche, people swore he says "Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease." It became part of the official lyrics published. Lennon, however, says, "Hold you in his arms, yeah, you can feel his disease." When he heard about this, he liked it better, since the song is, in his words, "gobbygook" anyways. He is bag production after all.

I recently started watching a show on Netflix and this song played over the closing credits of the first episode. The show is called "Sex Education".

Made me realize the true meaning of the song. It's a metaphor about masturbation. I'm not sure that ever occurred to me before. When I was young I think I understood in a very literal way. "dancing with myself" just meant literally dancing while alone. I didn't stop to wonder if it was meant as a metaphor.

Billy Idol kinda looks like an anime character now that I think about it. He has anime hair.

Though the now solicitor who sang this:

insists that it is not about masturbation.

Never thought of that before either. Makes sense. Now I'm surprised it never occurred to me.
