Let Tina pump you up for the day...

Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

In a concert, Lena Horne once said, "I'm going to be Tina Turner for 10 minutes of my life if it kills me!" out of respect for the theatrical power she exudes.

Something like this:

--J.D.
Mob of the Mean: Free beanie, cattle-prod and Charley Fan Club!
"Doctor X is just treating you the way he treats everyone--as subhuman crap too dumb to breathe in after you breathe out."--Don
DocX: FTW.--sparks
"Doctor X wins again."--Pyrrho
"Never sorry to make a racist Fucktard cry."--His Humble MagNIfIcence
"It was the criticisms of Doc X, actually, that let me see more clearly how far the hypocrisy had gone."--clarsct
"I'd leave it up to Doctor X who has been a benevolent tyrant so far."--Grammatron
"Indeed you are a river to your people.
Shit. That's going to end up in your sig."--Pyrrho
"Try a twelve step program and accept Doctor X as your High Power."--asthmatic camel
"just like Doc X said." --gnome

She's a drink on a stick, Doc. :)

I thought most gay men knew her.

Nevertheless, I am one of the few that enjoyed Beyond Thunderdome because they had her and, of course, the king from The Vikings. People hate "the kids" but it presents a wonderful description of the development of founding myths.

But, yeah, Tina Turner was/is the best. The film about her is fantastic, actually.

Drumming the Japanese Original Phil "Lana? Could You Hold This Shotgun . . . in Your Mouth?" Spector "River Deep Mountain High" is one of my "warm-up" exercises. The film covers that well in that Ike Turner became very jealous that Tina could do something on her own:

that has pictures from the time, especially at 1:00.

Here's a song for the next time you sneeze and someone says "Bless You":

The lyrics are so uplifting and inspiring, I can almost forgive them for totally copying the "You Really Got Me" guitar riff.

This fancy Roland MIDI type stuff is supposed to be the "Dungeon" sound track for Ultima 6.

They are mistaken. This Soundblaster style is the correct version, and only this.

"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Dad made it about 4 months from the point of diagnosis. I got a call that he wasn't waking up yesterday. He died when I was flying to see him. No regrets though. We had a couple of heart-to-hearts when he was getting chemo. He was ready for it. Just happened quite suddenly, which is how most people describe late stage pancreatic cancer. Now I have the morbid business of obtaining death certificates and making phone calls. Sad times.

Meanwhile, Alex Trebek seems to be doing quite well. Good for him.

I recently started watching a show on Netflix and this song played over the closing credits of the first episode. The show is called "Sex Education".

Made me realize the true meaning of the song. It's a metaphor about masturbation. I'm not sure that ever occurred to me before. When I was young I think I understood in a very literal way. "dancing with myself" just meant literally dancing while alone. I didn't stop to wonder if it was meant as a metaphor.

Never thought of that before either. Makes sense. Now I'm surprised it never occurred to me.
First thing I thought of <sigh>
