You don't have bars on your trains?!?

I always have a beer, even if my travel lasts just half an hour.
In Chicago people bring their own.

Used to have them, so we can spin the current situation as being "more advanced". :p

Liquor on a train in the USA. The past is a foreign country. 8)
Liquor on Amtrak runs full and strong. You can even brown-bag it I think. I don't know what other train you've been riding.

Not commuter trains, though Metra (Chicago) allows you to bring your own, except on game and music festival days.

But there used to be bar cars on the Long Island Railroad. Also New Haven and what is now Metro North.

Banned on the London Underground and generally on trains to and from football matches, but otherwise, we're allowed a tipple on the trains. (Bloody expensive if you buy from the buffet car, though.)

Entertaining shadow home secretary, Diane Abbot got herself in hot water this year for slurping a rum cocktail on the Tube. :D

Would it have been less of a scandal had it been something more English such Pimm's Cup? :BigGrin3:

Abdul, I'm just old enough to remember my father lifting me high enough at the railway bridge at Davenport Station to see the last steam trains on which he commuted to work in Manchester. :)

Interesting.

There's a narrow gauge steam railroad from Chama New Mexico to Antonito Colorado, that I rode in the 1980's and is still around.

Passenger service is primarily rail fans and other tourists, but there is still small freight service and a few commuters.

Chama itself does a lot of business as a jumping off spot for campers and hunters, but there's also a logging industry.

As a kid I traveled by steam train (family vacations). I mostly remember Italy. As it was before Total Security™, you could still open the windows and, Italian trains being then incredibly overcrowded, I've seen people getting into the carriage through them. It also meant sitting for hours on your luggage in the corridor.

Fun part was leaning outside while speeding on. But the coal smoke produced a peculiar kind of dust which stung sharply the eyes and was quite difficult to remove. :x

After partaking of my habitual midnight fag-o-cycle ride and kicking the shit out of an insane Polish tramp who attempted to steal my gloves outside McDonald's, I attempted to appreciate you a little more, Abdul. Unfortunately, Mrs. Camel is away god bothering with a load of nuns this weekend, so all did not go quite according to plan. (Hic.)

Well, the train set would have worked, had my niece not been buggering about with it...

Image

Oh, well; here's Sir Dinadan, (I really wanted the Mallard, but such was beyond my means,) and a few of his friends, including a Prime Pork Wagon, cos you're a Kike. :)

Image

All was not lost, however, as I found a brigade of Eighth Army WWII soldiers, hand-painted by yours truly and glued to the carriage floors to make things look more realistic. (Things like that make sense when you're ten.)

Sadly, the slot cars had to go to preserve some semblance of marital harmony. I flogged them on Ebay to some guy in South Africa for about twice what I paid.

Nowt so queer as folk. :)
