My New Work Time Hobby

Post by Nyarlathotep » Wed Aug 21, 2019 12:44 am

One of the most fun things for me about starting a new job is coming up with nicknames for all the coworkers I see but don't interact with and don't know their names. So far at my new job I have

Eraserhead
Not Exactly Val Kilmer
Not Exactly Alyssa Milano
Flock of Seagulls
Flock of Seagulls 2: Seagull Boogaloo
Flock of Seagulls 3: This Time It's Personal (The haircut seems to be making a comeback in my neck of the woods)
Middle Aged Eddie Munster
Elxa Dal (this one only makes sense if you have read Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller books)
M&M (Stands for "Mullet & Mustache")
Millennial Qui-Gon

This is a fun activity and really takes the edge off the boredom.

I already have with Flock of Seagulls. Neither he nor anyone else around me had any idea what I meant......

The others....unlikely I will interact with any of them. And besides, I don't think any of them are really all that mean.

Wilhelm Reich recommended imagining people, especially bosses, in their underwear. (Must be in Listen, Little man! I think.)

Wilhelm Reich recommended jerking off in a specially designed closet as a cure for lack of revolutionary consciousness and other neuroses. ;)

I have been contemplating a nickname for my boss, despite knowing his actual name, for some time now. I think I have settled on "American Roy".

The only hint I will give to the meaning is that we are doing Tech Support.

Flock of Seagulls 3 got a haircut and the name no longer fits.

This is unfair

Is Not Exactly Alyssa Milano cute?

At my last job there was a Not Exactly Rose McGowan (to use your nomenclature). Pretty close, actually--there was even a photo of the real Rose someone put on her cubicle and you had to look closely to see the difference.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Cute-ish.

I usually dub someone “not exactly (whoever)” when they just have a couple of features that remind me of the other person, rather than when it’s an exact match.
