Cybertruck

The modern equivalent of the El Camino, only worse.

Expensive junk. Suspension can't even handle the ATV and a guy.

I think Musk is just trolling us.

Has he announced it is for sale, or is that just a prototype?

status symbol for rich folks who will drive or be driven in something else most of the time.

Not the original target market for the El Camino.

That is one ugly piece of shit.

Then again, so was the El Camino: The Little Truck That Couldn't. :)

The target market for the El Camino (this was explained to me by a car salesman who I was living with at the time in Albuquerque) was farmer's wives. It was never meant to be the primary working pickup truck of a family that had several, but was fashionably sporty enough for shopping if you were of that set. It was on the same chassis as a same sized passenger car at a time when the legal distinction was not so important for environmental reasons.

It's main competition was the Ford Ranchero, which was more pick up truck looking.

Ha. Ha. I was just talking about my dad's old Ranchero today. While trying to understand how, even armed with a 360 degree surround view parking camera and extra large dash monitor (she paid extra for this), my girlfriend could still manage to repeatedly fuck up a simple parking job, and after refusing my perfectly reasonable offer to just let me fucking do it for her, I (calmly, god damn it!) mentioned how my dad was able to back his boat trailer up a long, narrow driveway and then make a 90 degree turn to put the boat in a space not much wider than the trailer in an old Ranchero with almost no direct rear visibility.

Her (translated from strong Osaka dialect): "What the hell is a Ranchero?"

Oh yes, the VW "Thing". It was cashing in on in on 60s hippie love of VWs and simplicity or something of the sort.

The running gear was the same as the contemporaneous Beetle, but (except for the primer orange paint job) the body style harked back to an earlier era.
