Stage name 'Ariel'. Good with clothing as without.

Must have had a good ground system installed or I do believe that boat would have gone up like a roman candle.

It amazes me these boats use people as the counter- balance. Are there systems with an extendable weighted boom on a swivel?

Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

Indeed there are. On some really super-duper racers, the entire keel can be swung to either side which, when the boat is heeled over in a big way, puts the keel straight down in the water again.

I don't recall if any boats had movable ballast, like pumping water from one tank to another, but if one wishes to win a race that badly, why not? :)

Do some sailboats have lateral fins to counteract the keeling over? Some cruise ships have them.

I figure if it's a sport, you're supposed to do it the hard way.

Not that I've ever seen...

When a sailboat is heeled over, that alone is enough to stiffen the boats resistance to rolling due to wave action.

Looked it up: there are fins for luxury yachts. Not sure how exactly they work, technical details are murkily presented (for the potential dumb rich buyer? ).

The extra fins in the water help keep the boat from rolling due to wave action. A sailboat under sail is pretty hard to roll due to the action of the wind and its own keel.

↑ I understand the principle – countering roll like flaps on a plane – but couldn't find details on the implementation: how are the fins actuated, and what automatism controls them.
