Not voting. I do not believe in Democracy.

Post by Abdul Alhazred »

Tomorrow is Illinois primary day, and I have made my decision.
When I say I do not believe in Democracy, I don't mean I'm in favor of any of the horrible alternatives (Fascism, theocracy, Communism, etc).

I mean I do not believe it exists, nor can it exist in any polity larger than a colonial New England town meeting.
BTW, Periclean Athens was about that size -- Not counting slaves.

Now includes women, so progress, right?
That was published in 1911, so it's not just the current year malaise overtaking me.

“If voting could change anything we wouldn’t be permitted to do it” - attributed to Mark Twain but I am not sure

Complaining is a right I have because I'm a human being, not a privilege granted by thugs as a reward for playing.

I often compare votIng to being asked to pick a card by a magician.

Sure, there are a bunch of cards to pick from, and you can freely pick any one you want, but every single one of them is the three of clubs

Really?

Carter versus Reagan?

Trump versus Hilary?

All the 3 of clubs?

Nyar overstates the case a bit perhaps, but the underlying position holds.

I am also willing to go with "the same soup in different bowls".

They all, ultimately, serve the interests of the rich and only the rich. This is not a conspiracy, per se, it's simply because they are rich themselves. If they do anything that helps people who are not rich, it is by coincidence not design. And that is true no matter what party they claim to be part of. So in the end, vote red, vote blue, it doesn't matter, because if you are not rich, you are getting fucked

Bill Hicks said it better than I ever could.
