The thread where we annoy Nyarlathotep by posting 90s song lyrics

Post by gnome »

She said it's cold
It feels like Independence Day
And I can't break away from this parade
But there's got to be an opening
Somewhere here in front of me
Through this maze of ugliness and greed
And I seen the sun up ahead at the county line bridge
Yes, Independence Day is usually cold, right? Being July and all.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

I am such an old fart that I don't know any 1990s lyrics.

Unless it's Rat Fink which was a reprise of an old Allan Sherman shtick.

But if Nyar is lurking this will *not* annoy him, I think. 8)

How about some 1930s lyrics?

Posting cool stuff that might lure him back into this snake pit.

Hey Abdul, remember this gem?

They censored it, got no airtime back in the day. Because it was going to make lunatics feel bad.

Definitely remember it. 8)

Censored? For a little while there it seemed like WMCA and WABC played it at least once every hour.
I just figured it fell below number 10 or whatever the threshold was.

Within weeks of its release, WABC and WMCA stopped playing the song in response to complaints about its content from mental health professionals and organizations.[11] The BBC also refused to play the song.

Interesting.

That means it lasted just long enough for me to memorize it without trying. Tormented my parents for a few days reciting it around the apartment.

I see from that wiki article that it was a number one song.

The B side is better:

"what dicking deep shit i produce" -- pillory

Freedom of choice
Is what you got
Freedom from choice
Is what you want

People are shitting themselves to death
Crap so much they fail to take a breath
But even when their kids are starvin'
They thought Trump would throw them Charmin.

At Clapham Town end lived an Old Yorkshire tyke
Who i dealing i horseflesh had ne’er met his like.
‘Twas his pride that i aw the hard bargains he’d hit
He’d bit a good mony but nivver been bit.
Chorus: Wi’ me dum a dum dary, *
Dum a dum dary,
Dum a dum dary,
Dum a dum day.

This old Tommy Tavers (by that name he was known)
Had an old carrion bit that was sheer skin and bone.
To have killed him for the curs would have been quite as well,
But 'twas Tommy's opinion he'd die off himsel',
Chorus

Well, one Abie Muggins, a neighbouring cheat,
Thought to diddle old Tommy would be a great treat;
He'd a horse, too, 'twas worse than old Tommy's, you see,
For tonight he'd thought that he would proper to dee.
Chorus

Thinks Abie: "Th' old codger'll never smoke the trick:
"I'll swap with him my poor dead horse for his quick,
"And if Tommy, I'm nobbered can happen to trap,
"'Twill be a fine feather in Abraham's cap."
Chorus

So to Tommy he goes, and to Tommy he pops:
"Between my horse and thine prithee Tommy would swaps.
"What will give me to boot, for mine th' better horse feel?"
"Not," says Tommy, "I'll swap even hands and ye will!"
Chorus

Abie preached a long time about something to boot,
Insisting that his was the liveliest brute.
But Tommy stuck fast where first had begun,
Till Abie shook hands and said: "Well, Tommy, done."
Chorus

"Oh, Tommy," says Abie, "I sorry for thee,
"I thought thou'd 'a had a more white in thy 'ee:
"Good luck in thy bargain, for my horse is dead."
"Hey," says Tommy, "me lad, so is mine, and it's flaid!"
Chorus

So Tommy got the better of the bargain of asked,
And came off with a Yorkshireman's triumph at last.
For though 'twixt dead horses there's not much to choose,
Yet Tommy was richer by the hide and four shoes.
Chorus
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

*in a desperate attempt to stay on topic*

Want to put my tender
Heart in a blender,
Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion.
Rendezvous, and I'm through with you.

You are correct sir. However even in our chlorpromazine haze we loonies loved it. In fact we would sometimes answer the patients phone with a cheerful "Good afternoon, Funny Farm."
The staff really did not like that.
