2 week stay in the 6x12 shed at beautiful Lake Ed Resort. Bring the kids. Shooting range open 9am to 6pm. Bring your own ammo.

Planet X of course, but you don't have to fly. You're there already.

Vacations? Again? Small wonder the economy is in tatters.

But I'd like to see the rock collection…

### Re: Vacation

I voted for rock collection. I got two red lava spew cooled and looking very dangerous rocks from some where in Utah. Also a "Devils ear" volcanic bomb probably from an Hawaiian volcano. Also two granite rocks worn smooth by time with inclusions of marble one almost indistinguishable from the the other despite being separated by hundreds of miles.

Yeah and don't get me started about bees.

Similar to what I have planned. I'll probably do it wrong.

That would take me at least a month. For the footing.

I already have a concrete slab there, no idea if Jimmy Hoffa is under it.

### Re: Vacation

Went to Menard's to buy materials. Failed. What I need isn't on the racks inside the store. Display instructions are to figure out what you need, then go out to the outdoor lumber yard and find it, load it on your cart, and proceed to checkout. Outdoor lumber yard is huge. Would need binoculars to scan the perimeter to see if what I need is out there, and there is a car drivethru and towmoters spinning around and delivery trucks here and there. I'm too old for that shit. Could order online and pick up when ready, or have it delivered.

Probably need to hire a contractor who knows what they're doing, instead of indulging in a Dunning-Kruger catastrophe.

### Re: Vacation

DO NOT HIRE A CONTRACTOR YET!

Buy the stuff on line and have it delivered. It should arrive about the time your vacation is over. Fine. Let it sit there under a tarp in your back yard until your next vacation.

Don't forget to order the tarp along with the other supplies.

While you are waiting, work out the pitch, span, riser height, tread width, nosing, newal placement, spindles and handrail dimensions for your stairs. Double check your work. Triple check.

Then call the contractor.

### Re: Vacation

Estimated materials cost for my home-brew plan: ~$500.00 Estimated materials cost using the Menard's online deck planning page: ~$900.00

Also remembered that as a homeowner I'm required to register myself as my own contractor with the local authorities and pay for requisite permits and inspections and stuff.

Given that I have other exterior work that needs done I think I'll forego the purchase of hundreds of dollars worth of wood and hardware and find someone who knows what they're doing to give me a package deal. My brother knows some guys.

Looking at the [like] job you need done, in my neck of the woods that's an as-built $2500 +/-$300 job.

Yeah that's the thing. "I can do dat" versus "I can do dat and then pay for someone who knows how to do dat."

### Re: Vacation

You can spend your entire vacation just vetting contractors! If that ain't fun, I don't know what is.

### Re: Vacation

Yeah I'm on the fence about it. Could spend the rest of my vacation building the steps and landing that I'll have to hire someone to fix after I finish the job, or I spend the rest of my vacation hiring a contractor who will screw me out of \$. It's a win-win.
