Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

Regarding the reel mower. Imagine cutting the stuff with scissors. The world ain't a goddam putting green.

Well I put that old busted mower out in the front yard with a "FREE" sign on it and a list of its woes. That was at 10:50 am. Two guys with a pickup truck and a landscaper's trailer just picked it up at 1:50 pm. "And that's that."

For those who know about such things, the motor had 212.3 hours on it.

If they can't fix it, they'll pull any useful parts and sell the rest for scrap.

If they can make a few bucks on it, what the heck, why not?

212 hours on a motor isn't much. The average car with that many hours on it will have clocked up fewer than ten thousand miles.

The Kohler 17.5hp motor was in very good condition. Mower deck replacement would have cost ~$700 for the parts. Wiring harness needed replacing--the battery wasn't getting recharged by the system. Tires needed replacing and the seat needed replacing. I'm sure there were other problems.

I am not one of the guys who can fix equipment. I'd have had to have a repair shop fix it and I'm sure the labor costs plus parts would have exceeded the cost of a similar replacement.

Indeed sir, would that more folks kept such accurate.
Most engines far outlive their sorry ass applications.
