Surviving another Covid quarantine Saturday

Post by Bruce »

Historically, I would wait for an opportunity when wife and both kids were out of the house, doing their weekend activities, then I would chug a couple of pints and clean the house in quiet solitude.

It's been 5 months since I last cleaned the house. It couldn't put it off any longer, but I knew exactly how things would play out. Did I mention that we now have two kittens?

I got started early in the morning with the broom. After repeatedly swatting away two playful and curious kittens with no concept of the meaning of dirt, I finally had 5 months of cruddy bits swept into a nice pile. All the sudden, wife and kids tromped into the room.

(Sigh).

Wife and son trumped right through my dirt pile, and the kittens took the distraction opportunity to scatter the rest all over the house. In less than 60 seconds, all my efforts were undone, just as I had foreseen.

Brucetta: Poor daddy. Would you like another beer?

No. Having your mom and brother leave the room is about the stress reduction equivalent of one beer, so I'm good. Guess I'll start over.
Such potential!

My Saturday went pretty much as it would have anyway, the high points being cleaning chores and shopping.

The only difference from normal is sometimes I used to eat breakfast at a diner, but only sometimes.

Not sustainable under current conditions, but so far life is still good. 8)

For me. :p

Reminds me, I got another mound of goat shit to move.

Laundry. All weekend, on and off. Got a basket waiting to be folded and put away and two more to run. I'm putting it off until later...

I read somewhere that in less enlightened times laundry was done once a year, so people owned something like a dozen dozens of sheets and hired a crew of washerwomen. (Of course not the poor, who had no sheets at all.)

Too much like work these things called wives. And after you've signed on the dotted line, it's a foregone conclusion the sex gets put in a bag and locked away. No thanks.

I do what I want, when I want and I do not have to discuss it with anyone. :)

I could comment, but to each their own. I gotta say though, laundry was never an issue for me when I was single. It was very rare that I would do my own. I'd take them to a laundry mat that provided that service; pick it up the next day. Only about twice as expensive and folded neatly rather than stuffed back in a [dirty] ditty bag. More often than not I'd just buy new underwear and socks and throw the dirty ones away.

Not an issue? You spent twice as much money and you threw stuff away simply because it was dirty.

I'd call that an issue. :)

I wish it were that easy. Clutter everywhere mixed with breakable stuff. They aren't hoarders. They're just lazy. Why put something away when you can just place it on the nearest horizontal surface, or on the floor in the corner, or just right in the middle of the floor in a heavy traffic area. And now, why even pick up paper bags, or empty boxes; or bits of string and plastic when kitties are having so much fun playing with them. This isn't my house anymore.....not that it ever was.😶
