Eh...it isn't just about "woke nutjob" behavior. Sociopathic media is rife with examples of identifying people who "ain't got their minds right" and causing them to lose jobs, etc. In corporations that require certain attitudes, one can be disciplined and/or fired for not having their minds right, and I know of one example in which persons openly wondered if it would be legal to screen applicants for their microaggressions. I can understand why someone would want to erase as much of their online personas as possible...and I use the woke example as an example, knowing full well that the "other side" is just as capable of punitive actions against anyone who ain't got their minds right.

Pay attention to the "fringe"--it tends to become mainstream.

Yeah, I wouldn't put it past the U.S. government to end favorable tax treatment for retirement accounts or eventually even just start confiscating them South American style.

As I've said before, I'll probably stay in Japan as long as I think my kids still need me.

The most likely scenario at this point is either retirement in Japan or splitting time between Japan and somewhere else. But I doubt it will be America.

I also don't expect Japan to go full "woke" anytime soon.
