MAILER-DAEMON@andorra.hotwire.nl -- failure notice

Post by Abdul Alhazred »

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at andorra.hotwire.nl.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.

This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<administrator@archapps.com>:
This address no longer accepts mail.

I'm wondering what the deal is?

Obviously something to do with some sort of scam, but what?

Did you only get one of them, or did you get more (probably bouncing from different addresses)?

Just the one, or there would be big alarm bells going off.

I suppose I'm not the target of the scam, and the scammer is experiencing technical difficulties?

Or maybe a trick to get me to confirm my address?

I'm pretty sure there are some mailbot-trojans that try to conceal their source by spoofing random return addresses from the host machine's address book... (outlook is popular) so someone else has you in their address book, got a trojan that spams automatically, and it picked out your address to spoof. The receiving address rejects it and bounced it to the apparent return address (you).

Eventually the person that operates the host machine will detect the virus and remove it, then you will stop receiving bouncebacks.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

I've had loads of those, I just delete them. I've not had my virus scanner (etc) pick anything up.
