THIS TOOK TWO PAGES OF THE TUESDAY USATODAY - IT IS FOR REAL

Subject: PLEEEEEEASE READ!!!! it was on the news!

!!!! It was on the news! Kathy South Alcoa - EHS Maintenance !!!! Coordinator Phone: [Numbers Removed]

To all of my friends, I do not usually forward messages, But this is from my good friend Pearlas Sandborn and she really is an attorney.

If she says that this will work - It will work. After all, What have you got to lose? SORRY EVERYBODY.. JUST HAD TO TAKE THE CHANCE!!! I'm an attorney, And I know the law. This thing is for real. Rest assured AOL and Intel will follow through with their promises for fear of facing a multimillion-dollar class action suit similar to the one filed by PepsiCo against General Electric not too long ago.

Dear Friends; Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates sharing his fortune. If you ignore this, You will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.

When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it ( If you are a Microsoft Windows user) For a two weeks time period.

For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, You will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a check.

Regards. Charles S Bailey General Manager Field Operations
1-800-842-2332 Ext. 1085 or 904-1085 or RNX
292-1085 Charles_Bailey@csx.com Charles_bailey@csx.com
I thought this was a scam myself, But two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on. Microsoft contacted me for my address and withindays, I receive a check for $24,800.00. You need to respond before the beta testing is over. If anyone can affoard this, Bill gates is the man.

It's all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many people as possible. You are bound to get at least $10,000.00. We're not going to help them out with their e-mail beta test without getting a little something for our time. My brother's girlfriend got in on this a few months ago. When i went to visit him for the Baylor/UT game. She showed me her check. It was for the sum of $4,324.44 and was stamped "Paid in full"

Like i said before, I know the law, and this is for real.

Intel and AOL are now discussing a merger which would make them the largest Internet company and in an effort make sure that AOL remains the most widely used program, Intel and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.

When you forward this e-mail to friends, Intel can and will track it( if you are a Microsoft Windows user)for a two week time period.

TRy it; What have you got to lose????
Now I have an answer, my Dad. Oh the shame.
Christianity: The belief that some cosmic Jewish zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-women was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...seems plausible.

He is likely one of those people who thinks "Yeah, I know these are usually fake, but what if it's real THIS time?" I have met e few like that. For some reason the fact that neither they nor anyone they know has EVER gotten anything from one of those chain mails never seems to help them formulate a clue.

But now that we know who falls for this shit, I want to know who writes this shit. And more importantly, why?

I've got the strangest feelings that Mr. Gates got this and forwarded in hopes of some extra money...

Oh, and 838!!!
Which happens to not be significant.

I always get a sense of nostalgia when I see this spam. It hearkens me back to the early days of the Internet and my first spam message. <sniff> The sky was clearer, the sea was bluer, the grass was greener.... I believe it was Disney back then, who wanted to give me money or free tickets for forwarding email. Back then, email was new to everyone so it claimed many more victims. There was no web really to speak of and almost every non-technical person was logging in to their "pine" account.

I also fondly remember, ten years later, doing a reply-all and going off on a rant to a coworker who passed it on. I used that opportunity to educate the whole office on the use of snopes.com. She apologized and said she mistakenly sent it to the office contact list instead of her personal contact list. It wasn't the forwarding that was wrong, it was that she sent it to the wrong people. Her excuse was the same, "probably not true, but can't take that chance".

That's what I don't get. What is the point? Just imagine for a moment that
you were the one that wrote it. And it's been forwarded all over the world by a bunch of idiots (Dap's dad excluded....my ex-father-in-law and my coworkers included). So fucking what? You've achieved nothing. You motivated stupid people to do something stupid. Go you.

Nope. I don't get it.

And there is the problem. Just enough people buy into this stuff for there to be a reward (Identities, niches for malware, money, or just being a nuisance). And given the sheer number of people who use the internet, some of them will catch onto this. Whether or not they are aware of the numbers playing in their favor.

Numbers. Ugly numbers. Enough buy into it (with money or simply believing it), and enough manipulate it. There was a large SA article on it.

So when you're complaining about spammers, don't just blame the sender. Blame too the people who buy it. Mind boggling, but there is a population out there signing up for those viagra ads, and it is supplying a positive feedback. We don't think about them, because we think it so absurd.

Don't underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers - A demotivational poster.

It's probably not a single person. One person writes something a couple of lines long and various people along the line find the idea of fooling large numbers of people amuseing and add to it.

Bwah ha ha! Aren't you like, you know, still young and idealistic and stuff? I used to be, once. Just wait, give it time. You might just lose your faith in humanity, too.

But I hope not.

I had totally forgotten about those! What a pain in the ass those were! Remember the ones where you mail a dollar to the top person on the list then scratch it off and add your name to the bottom? I never had the follow-through to send those out. Too skeptical and lazy, I guess. Interesting combo.

In this country, sending one of those out is a crime.

Anybody remember Dave Rhodes? (This URL is too good to be true...).

And of course, Some folks saw through Dave the first time around.

Nobody ever sends me those spam linkies anymore. I used to send a snopes link back. No, I don't think they learned and are using snopes now, I just figure they think I'm a spoilsport. I know, because I get called a spoilsport in a reply email after they get the snopes link I sent. Never a thank you, just whining that I killed their fun and hopes and dreams and the good naive passing on of junk shit that really makes no difference.
