There is a non-medical market for this device.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

The sexophone -- something like that device in an old fashioned (opaque) phone booth was the subject of an "underground" comic by (I think) Paul Krassner.
