Transabled

WTF

https://didyouknowfacts.com/woman-100-p ... ransabled/
This has to be one of the strangest stories I’ve heard in a while: Chloe Jennings-White, a 61-year-old chemist from Salt Lake City, Utah, is perfectly healthy, but identifies as ‘transabled’ and prefers to live life in a wheelchair.

Yes, you read that right.

The official name for this condition is Body Integrity Identity Disorder.
That page contains a lot of screen shots of Twitter posts. Here's a link to a 2012 medical science article.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3326051/

Ms. White is a trans-woman as well. Can't find a site with more detail that isn't a tabloid.

There are actual legitimate neurological and psychiatric conditions. The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat gives an example of one where a woman could not use her hands.

Whether or not this applies in this case is another matter entirely.

Yes, seemed just about impossible to find any discussion of these cases that wasn't typical "journalism" except for the actual scientific article.

These folks need psychiatric treatment, not the knife.

Not sure psychiatric treatment would be effective.

Hmmmmmmmmm ....

If I recovered from my transableism, would I then still be able to benefit from the ADA?

That is to say, as a recovered transablist, It seems that I would have deep psychological scars that would necessitate parking permits and nursing care, messages and the like. And maybe high end US Pharmacopoeia quality drugs.

And suppose the thing I had and recoverd from is PTSD that is war related. Am I then not every bit as deserving as someone who served in the real world as opposed to in my head world?

hey Abdul, pull up a chair, I'll tell you a story.

Comfy?

good.

Had a lawyer back in the day. I'd call him and lay various ideas on him, some a bit like the above.
Anyway, he would listen quietly and then, when I had finished, would clear his throat and say "wear stripes".

He was a spoil sport and meanie.

Good guy though.

Your lawyer friend was not the meanie. There is a meanie-ness underlying reality.

The sort of person who can get away with such scams is just the sort of person to be miserable anyway.

You may be right about that. But mutilating their bodies to match their twisted up little minds just isn't the way to go. Now, soon as one of these jokers Doctors shows how hacking off a limb will actually improve their function level in life, I'm interested. But Jeebus, I really doubt it right now.

Remember Dr. Strangelove's weird arm? The one he can't control, and seems to have a mind of its own.

Although I looked it up just now and it seems that it was supposed to be a prosthetic mechanical arm in the movie. It doesn't make much sense but it was just a movie after all.

My kids are attending middle school and high school at a time when switching genders is a popular fad. It's a bit distinguish between who is actually facing gender identity issues, who is mentally disturbed, and who is just a normal teen trying to fit in with their peer group.
Such potential!

Funny, that's exactly what they accuse each other of, all the time.

Chuck, what the hell are you doing in the girl's restroom?!

Did you just assume my gender? Nazi! I told you to call me Chelsea now. So, where do they keep the urinals in this joint? Never mind, I'll just use the sink.

Yes, kids are saying joint. It's coming back. So is bees-knees.

I think the real problem was when (I don't recall exactly when) the push for disabled access turned into a form of irredentist nationalism.

That's identity politics for you.
