Shouldn't robinson have debunked something this far into the thread, or at least identified what claim he was fixing to debunk?

Instead of being a tease something something DSMO and fake science something.

At least Randi told folks up front on each occasion what was to be debunked, and then proceeded to do it.

Such as dowsing. That one sticks in my mind because of all the things Randi debunked, that's the one I thought there might be something there. Though I wouldn't say I was an enthusiast.

The hostility and skullfuckery involved are pretty common. They seldom change.

1. It's a scam

2. It doesn't work

3. It's dangerous

4. If it works so well they would be using it

5. If all else fails, attack the messenger!

I'll keep it simple.

What specific claims are you debunking?

But let me be clear, there are also nonsense claims about using DMSO, which are also sort of insane

Like drinking it

While I have no evidence that drinking it is helpful or harmful, it just sounds crazy

Also, drinking it mixed with alcohol (ethanol) bypasses the liver and is really a bad idea

Without specifying the misinformation. Got it.

This is why I said the many years of treatment of animals will not matter at all. The fake science surrounding DMSO is quite strong.

For example, note that the info on an FDA approved use was just ignored.
In 2009, the first to obtain FDA approval for topological DMSO usage was PENNSAID®, which contains diclofenac in a carrier with 45.5% DMSO
Animal models are a step up from in vitro models. There's a reason why clinical testing using human subjects is necessary for approval of drug therapies. Guess why.

Anyway, for the fans in the bleachers:

Look, I’m not proposing, advising or promoting anyone to do anything, I stopped advocating decades ago, to the point that even if I knew something that could save your life, I wouldn’t say a thing.

When it comes to medical stuff, people are just nuts in the US

Even the mere hint of quackery is enough for the torches and pitchforks to come out, angry mobs to form, and the truth is no defense in these matters.

Some things in life, in physics and even medicine are self evident. And some things are impossible to double blind, because it’s really self evident if you are getting the placebo when it comes to anything using DMSO, or just DMSO by itself.

This is a known problem. Nobody who has ever worked with DMSO has any doubt about that problem. Even a small amount is very self evident, it’s literally impossible to not know if DMSO is being used. The goddamn smell, the taste, it’s unforgettable, and it’s almost instant. You apply any to just your skin and you can taste it and smell it right away.

A large amount (more than a few drops) and you reek of it, it just moves through your body so fast, and the sulfurous stink is unbelievable

It’s garlic, rotten eggs and some sewer gas all combined. Whatever the fuck you do, don’t put it down a sink where it will sit in the trap. It will smell so fucking bad it’s not a joke. It’s a very powerful solvent, and idiots can easily get sick or die using it with out precautions. Pretty much anything dissolved in DMSO WILL GO RIGHT INTO YOUR BODY, and that can be a very bad thing

SAME FOR ANYTHING ON YOUR SKIN IF YOU GET IT ON YOU
