End religion, End racism...true or false...

Post by De_Bunk »

Martin Luther King...Praised God...made a point...God didnt save him from being shot...

Muslims...made their point...now getting killed in their hundreds...Allah didnt save them...

American soldiers...George Bush...They praise God...But it dont stop wars and killing...Their God allows them to die....

Remove religion from this world...and racism just follows...??

When people just realise we all bleed when cut, and we all die when shot in the head...All the same color blood...we all look the same in death...

Is it linked....Is racism and religion linked to that extent...???

Would the removal of religion, end racism...????

No. What links religion & racism is ignorance. Remove ignorance and many bad habits disappear.

I concur since I know many brilliant religious people who are cool and calm. Being religious does not mean that you have a higher tendency to become a racist.

And I'm not so sure religion is ignorance so much as it is a delusion, based on a craving for an omnipresent father figure. Some of the religious people that I have discussed with seemed to express the need for an ethereal ever-present figure, which would comfort them in time of need. However the psychological natures of extremists are of a different matter entirely, which is both difficult and of which I have little experience.

No, people would try to use what ever the new "authority" is to justify their position. Heck, many scientists have produced papers that support an idea of the chain of being, with whites at the top, and aboriginees just above apes etc.

Heck, with science having as much respect as it does, some religious people try to use it to proove a young earth. People will try to use any authority to put forward any position.

I don't know would it? A persons personal opinions and all that might still verge on the racist front?

Religious fanatics aren't all ignorant. In fact, most terrorists come from a middle class environment, they're people who know that change can happen, but whatever they try, it's not working. So they resort to terrorism. In other words, terrorists are intelligent people. Removing ignorance would not remove people's urge to impose their will on others. Removing religion would only remove people's justification for imposing their will on others, but they would still try IMO ...

But you need ignorant masses for support. Otherwise all you have is a small group of fanatics that will die out as soon as the members are captured.

De_Bunk, the most rabid abolitionists in America were evangelical Christians.

I would substitute "ignorance" with "fear". Ignorance implies something being unknown, but that is only half the equation. It isn't until it becomes fear of the unknown that racism rears its head.

Is it fear of the unknown, or hatred of the different?
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

The oldest and strongest emotion is fear, and the oldest and strongest fear is fear of the unknown.
