How can we expose more people to critical thinking?

School's out in Chicago

Wheeeeee!!! :D
CHICAGO (Reuters) - School was out in Chicago on Monday and parents scrambled for child care after public school teachers staged the first strike in a quarter century over reforms sought by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and endorsed by President Barack Obama's administration.

Some 29,000 teachers and support staff in the nation's third largest school district were involved, leaving parents of 350,000 students between kindergarten and high school age to find alternative supervision.

Odd choice of words. Not wholly inaccurate, but goes to the reporters state of mind.

In loco parentis, my school's motto. It was originally an orphanage but the phrase still works.
Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

Prediction: The union will lose this strike, but not in a way that Rahm can be said to "win".

Nobody wins with strike action. The employees lose money, the employers lose money and, if it goes on long enough, the business closes down, even if it's state run.

Don't like your job? Fuck off and get another one.

Camel:

Many times in history unions have won strikes in ways that were beneficial to workers, particularly in the early days.

And there are also many times that employers have broken unions and were satified they had won.

This one is a political loss for Rahm no matter what, and in addition I am predicting the union will not get anything similar to their demands.
