Here somebody has a quite different take on the subject. In a nutshell:
At their best, colleges should provide the chance for students to experiment with activism. Pushing for change from an institution of any type or size—be it a city government, a college administration, or a police force—is a complicated and risky endeavor. Better to build skills and try out tactics and messages when the stakes are as low as some bad sushi than to enter the post-college world never having organized around anything.

Depends on what you think colleges are "for".

Very aristocratic. College is where the leaders of tomorrow learn to oppress.

I'd say the author of this piece is very disingenuous, and an enemy of human existence.

As has been noted by learned others on this forum, "Good luck with that in the job market."
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Community organizer is the degree they're after, if not in name then certainly in principle. Like Obama. :)

I suppose actually getting a community organizer job is a little like getting a place on team in the NFL.

But contrary to popular belief, McDonald's hires over qualified Liberal Arts majors. But bar tenders need at least a minor in mixology.

President Obama may have been a "community organizer" at some point on his way up, but that is not what his degree is in, nor is that a career position. :p

It's not even a job title in most cases.

It's what politicians do on their way up. Mostly small time local politicians, but every so often ...

Martin Luther King was essentially a "community organizer" wasn't he?

Depending on how you define it, one could say the same about the founding fathers. Revolutions take "organizing" of the "community".

The networking one achieved at tony college places one in executive ranks who determine job market rather than worry about it. :tater: :cowbell: :tater:
