The problem is that you're not very good at it. I'm sure you'll get better. You've got more experience than anyone I know. Time. Practice. Keep at it.

He painted it green. He hung it on the wall. Seems to me he knows what he's doing. But does it whistle? That's the real question.

Painting electricity green only works if the green ends up in the electric company's pockets.
If John Galt had his way, there would be no automobile, much less highways, because the green wouldn't go through Galt's railroad to Galt's pocket.
Then he'd grab a government hand-out and run.
It's a story told over and over in real life.

Solar is the second-largest source of new electricity capacity in the U.S. in 2013, trailing only natural gas, according to GTM. At the state-level, California continues to lead the solar PV charge, installing 455 MW in Q3. North Carolina moved into the number three spot in total PV installations with 23 percent growth over last quarter.

"Without a doubt, 2013 will go down as a record-shattering year for the U.S. solar industry. We've now joined Germany, China and Japan as worldwide leaders when it comes to the installation of new solar capacity. This unprecedented growth…," said Rhone Resch, SEIA president and CEO. "When it comes to preparing for America's future, clean, dependable and affordable solar energy has become the 'Little Engine That Could,' defying expectations and powering economic growth -- and, frankly, we're just scratching the surface of our industry's enormous potential."

How much coal do you suppose wasn't burned as a result of this solar? I suspect the answer is close to zero but it could be some negative number. Read the thread.

Germany, EU clash over electricity discounts
BERLIN — Chancellor Angela Merkel is vowing to defend German jobs as the European Union’s executive investigates whether German companies that use large amounts of electricity get unfair discounts.

Hundreds of German companies have been exempt from paying a surcharge on households’ electricity bills used to promote renewable energy such as solar and wind. The European Commission said Wednesday it is opening an investigation of whether the discounts violate EU state aid rules.

Merkel told lawmakers in Berlin that Germany will “make clear Europe won’t become stronger by endangering jobs in Germany.” She said Germany will tell Brussels that “Germany wants to remain a strong industrial location — we need competitive companies.”

Merkel’s new government plans to reform the surcharge system as it pursues plans to switch from nuclear to renewable energy.

Lignite is wet nasty low energy ... Might as well call it wood for its efficiency. Lots of sulphur. Stinky.

I hope they get those nukes up soon.

Interesting article by Bjorn Lomborg:

http://www.project-syndicate.org/commen ... rn-lomborg
By 2020, the effort to increase reliance on renewables will cost the European Union alone $250 billion annually.

Spain now pays almost 1% of its GDP in subsidies for renewables, which is more than it spends on higher education. At the end of the century, Spain’s massive investment will have postponed global warming by 62 hours.

Current green energy policies are failing for a simple reason: renewables are far too expensive. Sometimes people claim that renewables are actually cheaper. But if renewables were cheaper, they wouldn’t need subsidies, and we wouldn’t need climate policies.

Former US Vice President Al Gore’s climate adviser, Jim Hansen, put it bluntly: “Suggesting that renewables will let us phase rapidly off fossil fuels in the United States, China, India, or the world as a whole is almost the equivalent of believing in the Easter Bunny and [the] Tooth Fairy.”

March 2013: There has been no additional information released about the Wilson Solar Grill. There is concern about the practical viability of this concept with being too complicated and expensive, even if the technology were workable. There does not appear to be any working prototypes of the cooker, and the promotional photographs have been artificially constructed. Possibly there will be project updates from the designers in the future.
