Well there was a man who died at a cockroach eating contest, but presumably the others lived.

Apparently he merely choked.
But after winning, Archbold felt sick and started vomiting. He then collapsed in the store and was later pronounced dead. The medical examiner’s office conducted tests to determine the cause of death, which was revealed more than a month later.

According to the report, the death was deemed an accident as a result of "arthropod body parts" blocking Archbold's airways. The autopsy tested negative for toxic substances.

Back on track.

We are in the the future all right, but it's not Asimov.

This Is What An Orgy Looks Like in Virtual Reality
Reason
...

Holodexxx's plan is to sell the software for these virtual worlds, which can be used in conjunction with a headset like Oculus Rift. At the expo, guests could try it out using an array of gear that included a VR headset, headphones, and two wand-like controls.

When the Holodexxx video kicks on, I am in an empty strip club, with a bikini-clad hologram shaking her butt right in front of me. She has short, dark hair, but if I turn to the right I can choose to make it longer or a different color, as well customize the hologram-stripper's proportions. I touch one button and her butt gets smaller, another and it inflates back up.

To my right, there are options to change what the stripper—let's call her Cindi—is doing. I am not sure what I touch, but suddenly Cindi is writhing about on the floor. I decide to take this opportunity to wander around a bit, and as I do my field of vision shifts like I'm walking around a real room.

I approach Cindi, who is now back to standing up and rump-shaking. I reach out toward her, and virtual hands appear in front of me, apparently my hands. I try to grab Cindi's ass, because there are no rules in this strip club, but my hands just kind of pass right through her. All in all, the Holodexxx VR world is very cool in that 'holy shit' kind of way, but it feels a little too much like playing Wii.

...
Give it a few years. 8)

Update:
Campaign against sex robots

As far as I can tell, not a hoax.
Over the last decades, an increasing effort from both academia and industry has gone into the development of sex robots – that is, machines in the form of women or children for use as sex objects, substitutes for human partners or prostituted persons. The Campaign Against Sex Robots highlights that these kinds of robots are potentially harmful and will contribute to inequalities in society. We believe that an organized approach against the development of sex robots is necessary in response the numerous articles and campaigns that now promote their development without critically examining their potentially detrimental effect on society. As humanoid robots become more widespread it is necessary to develop an engaged ethical response to the development of these new technologies.

...
Apparently they haven't considered that the holodeck will make sex robots obsolete before they are prevalent enough to be a menace. :BigGrin3:

Before clicking the link, the biggest objection to sex robots I can think of is, well, the possible end of the species or a very sharp reduction at least. I don't think we will go extinct though and we could certainly afford to have a few billion less people on this planet for that matter. Less stress on the environment.
I'm guessing that won't be one of their main objections though. It'll probably be SJW mumbo jumbo.

And, yep. Their objections are just same as and the logical extension of the feminists who were objecting to porn in the 1980s because it "dehumanizes" women. Their real objection is to male sexuality itself. Well, they lost that fight and they will lose this one too.

I've been carrying around all the paperwork related to my accident on an old fashioned clipboard.

I call it my Tablet, v1.0.

There are several advantages to the original model. It doesn't get WiFi, but it never glitches. Updates must be performed manually, but I never need to recharge. Very robust too. I've dropped it several times and it still works. I don't see any reason to upgrade.

Even more robust than earlier iterations:

Very breakable. Moses had to put up with that cracked screen for the rest of his life.
Such potential!

Douglas Adams' Electric Monks did:

http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/content.asp?Bnum=1298
The Electric Monk was a labour-saving device, like a dishwasher or a video recorder. Dishwashers washed tedious dishes for you, thus saving you the bother of washing them yourself, video recorders watched tedious television for you, thus saving you the bother of looking at it yourself; Electric Monks believed things for you, thus saving you what was becoming an increasingly onerous task, that of believing all the things the world expected you to believe.

A few additional details are provided on the physical appearance of the Electric Monk.

So the Monks were built with an eye for originality of design and also for practical horse-riding ability. This was important. People, and indeed things, looked more sincere on a horse. So two legs were held to be both more suitable and cheaper than the more normal primes of seventeen, nineteen or twenty-three; the skin the Monks were given was pinkish-looking instead of purple, smooth and soft instead of crenellated. They were also restricted to just the one mouth and nose, but were given instead an additional eye, making for a grand total of two. A strange-looking creature indeed. But truly excellent at believing the most preposterous things.
A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.
William Shakespeare

1800s laptop: The portable writing desk.

Just the thing for when sitting at Ye Olde Star Bucks. Then they took the copy and engraved excerpts on tumblers, for some reason.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"
