Anyone else here read Tik Tok by John Sladek?

The robots have their own cuss words. For example humans are called "shit bellies".

That is a step up. The natural language recognition is two steps up.

"Send my mother flowers for Mothers' Day."
[User touches the desired selection off the order goes]

Am I being too demanding by suggesting that Viv should have included a touching note to go with the flowers?

Anyway, Viv has access to your wallet. I suppose that's okay so long as said access isn't unfettered.

It certainly drives a relationship between Viv and product/services brokers.

Tangent to the post

In the next demo video two ~hotties talk about different AI assistant technologies. "Alexa, How old are you?" hottie #2 asks of the Amazon device.

"I was released November 6th, 2014," she/it responds

Well, yea, that's cool. But she didn't answer the fucking question. With a little work the answer can be derived, but it remains a non-answer. Possibly a canned answer. A proper AI would have responded, "I am one year, six months, five days old," to greater or lesser degrees of detail. But the intent of the question was probably related to warranty claim so the answer should have at least included the date of purchase for the obviously lacking device.

If he's any sort of an AI at all, he can innovate with...a quick trip...to Walmart.

Not quite invented yet, but already market research:

Wired wrote:Peer Review Has Its Shortcomings, But AI Is a Risky Fix

Artificial intelligence is luring science into dangerous waters. To make scientific publishing more efficient, commercial publishers now rely more and more on editorial software systems. These are beginning to transform peer review from interaction between humans into interaction between humans and AI. We should think twice before allowing autonomous AI systems to decide what research warrants publication.

Have been paying my credit card bill automatically for the past year.

A billing error occurred and I received a warning text, a warning e-mail, and a threatening automated robot voicemail telling me to call their number. The scary robot voice gave me an incident code number to enter after the call and said this is NOT a solicitation. I called the number and the same robot voice picked up. I entered the code and the robot voice said,

Mr. Bruce.......after receiving payment for your previous billing cycle, you still owe us..............4 dollars. Please send us payment in the amount of..............4 dollars...............prior to..............February 20th..............to avoid late payment fees. Thank you for your cooperation..........Mr. Bruce.

Those robot payment collectors don't fuck around.
Such potential!

The Guardian wrote:Study reveals bot-on-bot editing wars raging on Wikipedia's pages

For many it is no more than the first port of call when a niggling question raises its head. Found on its pages are answers to mysteries from the fate of male anglerfish, the joys of dorodango, and the improbable death of Aeschylus.

But beneath the surface of Wikipedia lies a murky world of enduring conflict. A new study from computer scientists has found that the online encyclopedia is a battleground where silent wars have raged for years.

Since Wikipedia launched in 2001, its millions of articles have been ranged over by software robots, or simply “bots”, that are built to mend errors, add links to other pages, and perform other basic housekeeping tasks.

In the early days, the bots were so rare they worked in isolation. But over time, the number deployed on the encyclopedia exploded with unexpected consequences. The more the bots came into contact with one another, the more they became locked in combat, undoing each other’s edits and changing the links they had added to other pages. Some conflicts only ended when one or other bot was taken out of action.
