I can confirm that it's been an especially hot summer here in Japan too. Records have been broken.

I've got a friend in Portugal who tells me the temperature there well up into the high 40s

http://time.com/5357967/heat-wave-portugal-spain/

It doesn't get quite so hot here, but it's more humid, so the combination of heat and humidity is quite miserable.

In Japan, Weather Killed More Than 300 in July
  • Historic rainfall killed an estimated 220 people, followed by a heat wave that killed 116.
  • More than 13,000 remain hospitalized with heat-related illnesses.
  • August will bring more rain and heat.
Stay cool, Anax!

Here an approaching thunderstorm gave me some hope of rain, but it petered out:

Paint the entire fucking planet white. That way, it'll reflect more of the naughty energy back into space.

Yea, right.

Maybe, maybe not. One thing is sure: Give me a couple a million bucks and by Gawd I won't give a shit about climate change anymore!

Yes, I'm a selfish bastard. I've only got 20 years to go, send me the gawddamned money and never hear my brand of bullshit again! Do it now for Jeebus!!

In April, OK?

BTW, local temperature went down from 39 to 22 (Celsius of course, not some awkward scale defined by dirty brine and human bodies).

And it rained. Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh! Breathing again! :)

How's the part time cat coming along? What's it's condition? If poor, can you tough it, feed it? If so, get it to a vet and see if it has a ID chip implanted. And if not, ask yourself if you want to take care of a cat. Full time. If not, drop it off at a shelter.

But please don't let it continue to live on the fucking street. OK?

:) You have a warm heart, sparks! You will not roast in hell, only be boiled.

I'm well aware of all you wrote, rest assured, but it's really completely different: it's one of my neighbors' cat, not a stray. Young and small, but extremely athletic and curious. And well-fed. And very, very shy.

We are first floor so the risk of the little bugger ending as a moist splat on the ground are slight, or I would have contacted these people. (Actually I told the janitor while we were having some Belgian beers together, so something will get transmitted and they will do as they see fit.)

It's really part-time (or time sharing?), he's free to explore and even rip holes in my dilapidated furniture (within reason), but I won't feed him so he doesn't switch staff.

Lousy pictures, but as I said he's very shy and I keep the room dark.

Oh, and I'm old and dumb, but not poor.

Thanks Witness.

You're neither dumb nor poor. Good. That makes you a better man than I.

I just can't deal with the notion of animals suffering. Humans? Sure, because we can understand the bullshit. But animals do not get it.

BTW, that is a great looking kitty. Name?

This morning it was 25 degrees (-2.6 C) at 5 am

5 hours later it was 50 degrees

I think it had something to do with the big hot ball in the sky, but it needs investigating
