How many deaths?

Post by ed »

This is a do it yourself project. Below I have computed average monthly deaths for the USA for the period 2012-2015. The red bars are standard deviations. Data is from here http://data.un.org/Data.aspx?d=POP&f=tableCode%3A65
I was amazed that this data is not more accessible, maybe my google-fu is weakening with the yogurt diet. Anyway, I gave up trying to find monthly deaths for this year. You fill it in and lets see what we find.

The marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation is relieved.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Interesting Ed

I always heard cold weather means more deaths. It certainly looks like the data shows that

There's a chart with weekly, not monthly data. There's a couple weeks of lag in the data though, it's not quite up to the minute, but through the week ending 4/18 seems to be pretty much up to date, although more deaths may be added as they get reported. And, indeed, you can also see that in past years deaths tend to peak in January and go down in the summer.

The CDC provides provisional data:

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.
