Once you pay the Danegeld, how do you get rid of the Dane?

NAACP Calls for Weeklong Boycott of Facebook and Instagram
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) began a weeklong boycott of Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday after a bombshell Senate Intelligence Committee report found that the 2016 Russian influence campaign made an extraordinary effort to target African-Americans on social media.

The civil rights organization is calling on supporters to log out of Facebook Inc (FB - Get Report) and Instagram for one week to protest Facebook's history of data hacks and lack of action in allowing third parties to unfairly target users of color. It is calling the digital protest #LogOutFacebook.
I don't know when it will come, but at some point there's going to be a huge backlash to all of this crap.

So the NAACP is boycotting Facebook for not preventing Russian influence?

The funny thing is, never mind the totally cracked premise, any black people who follow through with this will be better off.

So it's all good. :)

Any evidence of this boycott happening?

Does that mean they are only returning the recent donation and not all donations?

None whatever and I seriously doubt anyone will pay the slightest attention to it.

But will blacks in general care, assuming they even know about it?

This is a dispute between factions of the ruling class.

Facebook would know if it's actually happening as would ISPs, but they might not want to share the information.

Two great stories in one day. :)

Ho ho ho! Washington DC sends Zuckerberg a sueball-shaped present
The Register
US capital Washington DC has sued Facebook, slamming the biz for lax oversight, misleading privacy settings and taking two years to 'fess up to mass data harvesting.

...
Mark Zuckerberg did everything in his power to avoid Facebook becoming the next MySpace – but forgot one crucial detail…
The Register
Let's get one thing straight right off the bat: Facebook, its CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and its COO Sheryl Sandberg, and its public relations people, and its engineers have lied. They have lied repeatedly. They have lied exhaustively. They have lied so much they've lost track of their lies, and then lied about them.

...

Before we dig into the lies, though, it's worth asking the question: why? Why has the corporation got itself into this position, and why does it have to be dragged kicking and screaming, time and again, to confront what it already knows to be true?

And the answer to that is at the very heart of Facebook, it goes to the core of Mark Zuckerberg's personality, and it defines the company's corporate culture: it is insecure. And it has good reason to be.

The truth is that Facebook is nothing special. It is a website. A very big and clever website but a website that is completely reliant on its users to post their own content. Those users don't need Facebook and they could, in a matter of seconds, decide to tap on a different app and post their thoughts and updates there, instead. If enough people make that decision, the company collapses. All 340 billion dollars of it.

...

And when it does collapse (or fade into insignificance), I will shed not a single tear. Facebook is evil.

From xouper's link (Forbes) --
...

No change has affected (or is designed to affect) the leading cause of Facebook's problems - the business model. Without this, Facebook is doomed to become irrelevant to other platforms or become extremely dangerous and be broken up

...

So what could Facebook do in 2019 to make some changes that affect the users and don't destroy the model?
  • Atomic bomb the newsfeed - start again, you know what works and you can keep ads in, just cut the trash.
    .
  • Get a Chief Security Officer. Jesus.
    .
  • Made ads 100% transparent - this shouldn't freak you out unless an awful lot of shady people are doing shady things.

I'm kind of surprised that Tesla made the list.

Is it because Tesla tracks your car's location? If so, then ATT, Verizon, Sprint, et al should be at the top of the list.

Was it an open-ended question or were people given a list of companies to choose from?

Google shifted $23 billion to tax haven Bermuda in 2017: filing

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Google moved 19.9 billion euros ($22.7 billion) through a Dutch shell company to Bermuda in 2017, as part of an arrangement that allows it to reduce its foreign tax bill, according to documents filed at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.

The amount channeled through Google Netherlands Holdings BV was around 4 billion euros more than in 2016, the documents, filed on Dec. 21, showed.

“We pay all of the taxes due and comply with the tax laws in every country we operate in around the world,” Google said in a statement.
[…]
The subsidiary in the Netherlands is used to shift revenue from royalties earned outside the United States to Google Ireland Holdings, an affiliate based in Bermuda, where companies pay no income tax.

The tax strategy, known as the “Double Irish, Dutch Sandwich”, is legal and allows Google to avoid triggering U.S. income taxes or European withholding taxes on the funds, which represent the bulk of its overseas profits.

However, under pressure from the European Union and the United States, Ireland in 2014 decided to phase out the arrangement, ending Google’s tax advantages in 2020.

Three quarters of US Facebook users unaware their online behavior gets tracked
The Register
Most Facebook users have no idea that the ad biz compiles data profiles of their online activities and interests, according to research conducted by the non-profit Pew Research Center.

That's not altogether surprising given that Facebook appeals to people disinclined to concern themselves with the minutiae of digital technology, which is to say most people. ...
