The Trumpists on the internets have a new meme. They basically label dupes of the state "NPCS". Basically people buying into the current out-of-some-power Big Brother's narratives.
It started as a "don't argue with X, they're an NPC" about SJWs who can deliver nothing but broken canned responses to defend their beliefs, but quickly spread to the political sphere to describe the low intellect botlike responses of radical democrats. (let's stop calling them radical leftists)
The response is predictably NPC. "This is alt right." "This is facist." "Broken Record Skips" (the kids do this as broken bits of code instead, but I'm old).
The NPC meme is largely self-fulfilling and lures NPCs into responding as NPCs.
Yep. Talking to them is like interacting with an NPC in a video game. Canned responses. Limited ability to interact.
Is this characterized by any particular ideology?
Most people absorb and repeat mostly talking points they find comfortable, and would not be able to go into convincing detail when put on the spot.
Even the best of us do it sometimes. It just looks like a straw man when used to make a political point.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Feel free to call out hypocrisy. I'm just pointing out that the meme itself is weak.

I will agree that is it not really funny at all. Not to me anyway. I'd even be inclined to pronounce it super-lame-o except for one thing.
I posit that the effectiveness of a meme need not correlate with LULz, but only with the degree to which it trolls the target. Hard. Very hard. Pants shitting hard.
To those who consider triggering LIBBERULz to be LULz per se to be amusing, it is a distinction without a difference.

"Meme" is a weak "buzzword" created by a narcissist who never learned what a "symbol" means.
By definition, "memes" are weak.
Symbols are strong.
Only deal in symbols.
Or signs.
Signs and Symbols.
In the rain.
