I am skeptical any of the students said "It's not rape if you enjoy it."

It would be a dumb thing to say at an anti-abortion rally.

But, as a legal matter, I'm not sure it is a completely indefensible statement.

If you disagree with the statement you'd have to believe it's possible to enjoy being raped.

Rape fantasies aside, I'm thinking in terms of a a hypothetical date "rape" situation. Say a college dorm, for example. Was there consent or not? Woman says no, man says yes. The man says she enjoyed it. Others in the dormatory say they heard sounds though the wall that suggest she was enjoying herself. As a legal question, evidence that the woman enjoyed it and willingly participated would go to disprove lack of consent.

In this case, I am skeptical because, so far, despite hours of video, no such statments have been produced.

Because Phillips and the "media" have already been caught making false statements and selectively editing the event.

And, if there were video of the students making such a statement, I have little doubt CNN would be blasting it as "Breaking News" all day long.

Ocasio-Cortez and liberal freshmen join Oversight Committee

Image

The House Oversight Committee is adding a group of progressive flamethrowers to its ranks.

Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) won spots on the high-profile committee on Tuesday, two sources told POLITICO.

The new members, all of whom are freshmen except Khanna, have been critical of President Donald Trump, and their addition to the committee comes as Democrats have pledged to launch wide-ranging investigations into the president and his administration.

Congrats, we have the kind of person who believes Occupy Democrats propaganda memes as a congress person.
You have not been paying attention.

It's the Party Line (whether they "really believe" it or not), and they are the majority.

NB -- "really believe" <== "scare quotes" because it is not a useful concept in political discourse.

IIhan Omar's statement posted above appears to have been made after the longer video was widely available.

How she, a member of Congress, could watch that and still say the students "taunted 5 Black men," "surrounded Phillips," or "led racist chants," is just incredible.

That she might say such things without bothering to watch the video is equally incredible.

I think such reckless disregard for the truth (if not made while on the floor of the House) could be the basis for a defamation suit.

I've heard of that sort of thing. Louis CK once did a bit about it.

I've heard some other stories from men when I was in the Navy, but I can't independently confirm. One chick supposedly wanted to be slapped around, punched even. He punched her and she called him a pussy because he didn't punch hard enough.

There is a famous French song (Boris Vian / Magali Noël):

Hurt me Johnny

He stood up when i came up to him
Once on his feet, was much shorter
I was thinking, "it's in the bag!"
This cutie here is for my bed
His height stood up at my shoulder
But he was built like a truck
Followed me to my shack
And I shouted, go on Wolfy

Hurt me hurt me Johnny
Fly me to the heavens, zoom!
Hurt me hurt me Johnny
I want some loving that goes "boom"!

He'd taken off all but his socks
Nice blue-striped yellow ones
He looked at me, bewildered
He wasn't getting it, poor sod
So he told me, looking sorrowful
I wouldn't even hurt a fly
He got me mad!, so i slapped him
And I squealed, savagely

Hurt me hurt me Johnny
I'm no fly, zoom!
I want some loving that goes "boom"!

Since he wasn't getting excited
I insulted him wildly
I called him all the names in the world
And some uncommon ones as well
That woke him up alright
He told me "come off it!"
You really think I'm a dead loss?
I'll show you some hardboiled Noir alright

You're hurting me, Johnny
I beg you, not with your feet.. zing!
You're hurting me, Johnny
I can't have loving that goes "bing"!

His little shirt back on
His li'l suit, his li'l shoes
Went down the stairs
Leaving me with a dislocated shoulder.
For thugs this type,
it ain't worth the expense
Now my bums are all bruised
Never again shall i request

Hurt me hurt me Johnny...

Ocasio-Cortez was the only Dem to vote ‘no’ on bill to reopen the government
The first House-passed measure authorized funding to agencies at current levels through Feb. 28 and no extra money for President Trump’s border wall. It passed 229-184. Ocasio-Cortez joined with 183 Republicans in voting “no.”
Basically she's such a purist that she refuses to vote for anything that funds ICE at all.

In this case, since her vote wasn't the deciding vote it doesn't matter, but it does indicate that she isn't a reliable party-line vote.

Ocasio-Cortez invokes Bible in response to White House on climate change
The Hill
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y) on Wednesday responded to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders telling her to leave climate change up to a “much higher authority” by invoking the Bible.

While not quoting specific verses, the freshman lawmaker invoked scripture in defense of her impassioned pleas to address climate change.

As a follow up to my post above suggesting Congresswoman Omar's defamatory statements were actionable, it appears she has retracted and deleted them. It's not clear if she did so before or after being notified of a potential lawsuit by Nick Sandmann's attorney.

Hat tip to Wildcat for the video of Sandmann's attorney in the other thread.

The lawmaker appeared to be paraphrasing a Relevant magazine article from last year titled, "Stopping Climate Change Is a Part of Following Jesus." The article included adapted translations of specific biblical passages.

Everybody's doing it, and I don't like it.

At least if it were Pence there'd be a non-zero probability that he "really believes" it, but "really believes" is not a useful concept in political discourse.
