... NOT wearing fur is racist, because ...

A Black Legacy, Wrapped Up in Fur
This is in The New York Times not just some ghetto preacher says so.
That makes it really truly officially racist, even on the Upper East Side.
Where the ladies will NOT start wearing fur again.
Just loudly feel guilty about it, as is always in fashion.

A Black Legacy, Wrapped Up in Fur
“As soon as black women could afford to buy mink coats, white society and white women said fur was all wrong.”

Judging by the number of white women wearing Canada Goose coats these days that no longer applies.

Is goose down bad now too? :notsure:

What about leather?

For some reason, fur seems to have gotten a bad rap whereas other materials made from animals got a pass.

Canada Goose coats have coyote fur around the hood. They're one of the largest buyers of coyote pelts in the world.

OK, Canada Goose is a brand?

I thought you meant coats that use goose down for insulation.

Quite expensive by middle class standards, but not to the magnitude of fur coats.

They have to do SOMETHING with coyote pelts. My brother in law makes money on the side hunting them. Farmers and ranchers pay bounties on them because they prey on livestock and their numbers need to be kept down.

At least by using the fur, some part of them gets used

I love coyotes, they are awesome animals, usually the highlight of my day when I see one. But we have encroached on their habitat enough that their numbers need to be kept down via hunting. Otherwise, a bunch of starving coyotes and lots of dead livestock and pets.

Also, they remind me more of foxes than dogs.

Coyotes kill foxes. Used to be lots of foxes in the forest preserves when I was growing up, before the coyotes made it here. Now foxes are rare, and coyotes are everywhere.

Same ecological niche. Are they an invasive species in Illinois?

They're invasive everywhere east of the Mississippi. I think wolves used to keep them out hundreds of years ago, but as wolves were eradicated the coyotes moved in. I don't ever remember seeing them around here until the 1980s. Now I see them here in the city proper, they live in the parks and along the lakefront. I saw one a few years ago, a really mangy looking one, trotting down the sidewalk on California Ave. in broad daylight. Total residential area.
